What live music are you going to see tonight?
adh1907 replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Not live but part of the current London Jazz Festival, a double bill today at the Barbican: Big Ben, Ben Webster in Europe (1967) and Cecil Taylor a Paris (1968). -
What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

Ts-find, I have to say that the 'Authentic Barock Sound' is highly present on the Astree label. I would say this is a recommended label for stuff like this ... -

I hope this is still happening, was just thinking of Hugh Walker after a huge Big John listening rehearsal. Perfect drummer, think this dude made total sense in this genre.

Whoever is conducting this research got to talk to Marvin Cabell, GMIII, wowwww, alright, alright. Like, maybe I'll like it. No chance talking to Hugh Walker? That dude was badass, right up there with Eddie Gladden and Idris Mohamed!
-
It's a pretty wonderful thesis though, based on the author's own interviews with Patton, Harold Alexander, Marvin Cabell, Leroy Williams, Grachan Moncur III and others and with loads of detail on things that are barely documented otherwise... There's always room for more research...

It was Vince Guaraldi and this man that got me hooked on jazz at 8 years old: Love this dude, and my wife loves him too. 👍 I think this is fair to say, given it's just a thesis and not a disseratation. Maybe some more research would benefit us....still interesting though, especially if Big John left the music buisness, just because he didn't like the packaging of his music.

I don't know much about the Black Muslim organization Patton was a part of and the thesis is also not very precise on what exactly offended him... But, in the broader picture, there are Islamic traditions prohibiting pictures of all living things... Even though interacting with living things is completely ok... And practice looks more complex a lot of the time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aniconism_in_Islam

Really? She's cute, probally oceania, don't understand this at all however. Even Muslim men have relations with white women. Now, and tired this hasn't been made more available.

I really appreciate threads like this as most of the titles are beyond my usual listening, although I have and like both of the Chris Lightcap titles. I’m pretty sure most the stuff mentioned here would more outside than the Lightcap releases (would outside still be an appropriate descriptor?). I’ll give some of these a listen.

Nina Simone’s A Single Woman (expanded) out Nov 7
king ubu replied to ghost of miles's topic in Re-issues
Apologies for being so slow @JSngry - I've just checked my CD (the "Elektra Masters" digipack from 1933) and there are no arranging credits for the bonus tracks whatsoever. And while some of the bonus tracks are mentioned in the new liner notes, there's no real info there, either. For the main album it's Lubbock on #1 & 4, Clayton on #2, 7 and 9, Evans on #3 & 5, and Simone on #6, 8 & 10.
