Someone who digitized the recordings, I guess? So wasn't Mosaic involved at some point (remastering, for example??) in this process for each of these recordings that went into their releases? Even if they weren't the first to have digitized the music.

Do the labels create the metadata?

Don Byas? Pop?? This??? What were they thinking at Mosaic?? I could understand the "pop" tag with some of his French ballad recordings from the 50s, but here??

I'll have to pull my cdr of that session out. In my recollection, it's neither as bad as Cuscuna made it out to be, nor necessarily as good as what did come out around that time.

I didn't create the artwork, but I think a member of this board did. (I can't remember who.) The image has been floating around the internet for a while. I agree that it's excellent.

Maybe in conjunction with Michael Garrick? I'm not sure how many discs a Harriott set would be. I'd support the endeavor.

That shirt design could be trying to make a point that the music of Strata-East is no longer outsider music and is now staking it's claim astral and true American music and by extension real America. If that's the intent, then that's a pretty radical notion itself

hanks for the link BTW, I'm currently reading the 33 1/3/Bloomsbury book on Television's "Marquee Moon" - covers the early US punk scene transitioning from the glam scene (New York Dolls etc), particularly the CBGB's years. Lots of Patti S included.

I may have seen those LPs in a store around here recently. Will keep my eyes peeled for it. Thanks for the rec as well 🍻 One thing I didn't realize with this set after ripping it to my library is that several discs are tagged as "pop" instead of jazz in the metadata. That kind of mislabeling leads it to being missed when using my player and selecting the jazz category. Anyway, remedied that issue.

The Hank D'Amico session you are referring to has been present on the reissue market since the 80s on the 2-LP anthology "The Changing Face of Harlem Vol. 2" (Savoy). A very nice compilation, and along with its Vol. 1 companion volume it occupies some space in the "Second copies" corner of my record shelves (which I guess is saying something ). Additional listening suggestion for Hank D'Amico: "Holiday With Hank" (recorded for Bethlehem in the 50s and reissued most recently in Japan).
