    CD Japan

Thanks, that's useful info. I always thought the breakeven/crossover point for Japanese imports from cdjapan vs DG was about a 4-CD order. My last 2 cdjapan shipping charges, pre-tariff, were 3864 yen for 9 CD and 4042 yen for 10. I've always received orders very quickly, even within 2 days of shipping, so that appears to have slowed (though still reasonably fast). Don't have time at the moment, but I'll have to make some test carts and try to back out the formula for "customs clearance fees" vs regular shipping. Maybe also compare Fedex and DHL in that regard.

  8. No Blythe, No Higgins.
  9. I assume they're scratched? Have you tried getting them buffed? My local Bull Moose Music stores have a buffer that they offer as a service. It's cheap.
  10. Last night I listened first to Aghartha. It was a cult record then and is a classic now. I have forgotten how good it is, since I had listened more to "Dark Magus" and "Pangheea" during the last years, but this is just wonderful and Miles is in top form, playing much trumpet. I´m crazy about Pharoah Sanders, saw him so many times live from the 70´s on. Actually the first thing I had heard in my early teens was "Healing Song" on "Live at the East" and it opened an universum for me. Pharoah Sanders is one of my very very favourite masters, I love him !
  11. Hello friends, I´m glad I have quite a busy time as a musician. Last weekend I took my band, augmented by a great female singer (Lili Mae) and the great percussionist Andi Steirer to the recording studio for our next album. It was just wonderful to work with those fantastic musicians, and though we had a lot of work (12 tunes in 2 days), we also had a lotta fun and a great time. The singer did 6 tunes with us and she wrote great lyrics to my compositon "Tune for Pharoah". The other vocal tracks are standards like Round Midnight, Moanin´ (with some astonishing scatting by Lili, doing 4´s with the horn players), a very fast version of "I got my love to keep me warm", and one of my favourite ballads (The Nearness of You). Besides "Tune for Pharoah" I had written 6 other originals, one as a feature for my bass player. There will be also some heavy funk stuff, where the drummer and percussionist really did a wonderful job. My visual artist and fotografer Lilia Kirilova made a lot of session fotos. Now I can´t wait to hear the masters. The album will be out early next year as CD as well as double vinyl. Until now, this is a great year for me musically.

  13. Yep, United Artists has a very good jazz cataloge. Have the reissue from Japan among others. My rating ---> 5 *****
  14. Yes thats a good one. Have it for many years
  15. I bought a very cheap copy of this box, and discs 4,7 and 11 don't work. Please PM if you can help me out.
  16. I cheated. It's a "local" band. I have the LP, but it's plowed, so this clean digital transfer is a revelation!
  17. I really enjoy #3, which is somewhat of a surprise as I don't have so many recordings with electric piano and many of those have a Japanese connection (which is unlikely here). No idea of personnel. The trumpet particularly impresses. Hannibal Marvin Peterson (of whom I'm a fan) played on some records kinda like this (e.g. with Roy Haynes and Gil Evans), so he came to mind. But I don't believe he's involved. Nor Haynes or Gil, for that matter.
  18. Those un-ID'd songs bear repeated listens really well. Arthur Blythe on 4? The solos on track 3 are really enjoyable, including the Rhodes which isn't easy to pull off. This one gets better as it goes along. I struck out on Buddy, but how about Billy Higgins on drums? Whoever these guys are they are really good.
  19. 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are identified so far by artist and title. Two musicians known on 8 No musicians IDed on 3, 4 or 6
