  1. Past hour
  2. Ts find, pretty good recording ! 'Pini Della Via Appia', gave me goosebumps !
  3. One set could be all the sessions with Clare Fischer, Gary Foster, and Warne Marsh.
  4. mikeweil

    Geri Allen

Saw her perform in a trio with Ralphe Armstrong and Sherman Ferguson (a real swinging drummer playing for the benefit of the trio). It was excellent. I liked her piano playing much more than on the records.
  5. Grateful Dead Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY (2/24/71) disc 1, from the Enjoying the Ride box set.
  6. Tonight, Randy Brecker and his wife, Ada Rovati are playing with a local rhythm section at the tiny Press Room club in Portsmouth, NH. https://www.portsmouthnh.com/event/randy-brecker-and-ada-rovatti-at-the-press-room/
  7. Looks good. I prefer dark roasts. My brand this morning is from a local roaster.
  8. Last night this one was missing. A thorough inspection of the shelves with classical CDs revealed I had my Bizet recordings in two places. Compilations with works of several composers are a drag. This CD has, btw, the most terrific recording of the Carmen Suite you will ever hear. Most conductors tend to take it too fast - this one is right on spot and grooves the hell out of the piece.
  9. "Just One More Chance" composed by Sam Coslow & Arthur Johnston. Memorable recordings by Bing Crosby, Lucky Thompson, & others https://secondhandsongs.com/work/131495/all
  10. Several jazz musicians have been asked in the past month, but none could identify this. This is Sonny Rollins at the Bottom Line, NYC, back in 1993. Sonny had the knack of resurrecting tunes from movies that never made their way into the regular rotation of jazz musicians. This was probably covered by signers. https://mega.nz/file/ur5SAToK#5B-owbRWa48C7LAsOj517llEm6Ua_WDB4ODpsC5cKhM
  11. Today
  12. Seeing that Blue Note Japan is reissuing these sessions as SACD in a few months I decided to spin this US compilation issue that sounds really good. I also have the Japanese 24 bit by RVG complete set and enjoy the sound on that one a lot. Miles Davis “Take Off: The Complete Blue Note Albums” Blue Note 2 cd set, disc 2
  13. I've almost sold it but after reconsideration this could be 'something'
  14. I wanted to hear a version of "US Blues" and this dsic containing the original studio version is the first I encountered on the shelves. Grateful Dead "From the Mars Hotel" Mobile Fidelity cd
  15. Paul Desmond Quartet Live (Verve,2000) "Canadian Quartet" at Bourbon Street, Toronto, 1975
  16. Forgetting impersonation, I have started getting suggestions for AI prompted playlists. They are... insufferable. Here is an example (best viewed pre-shower, because you will want to wash yourself after): "Kitchen Contribution Prompted by Spotify Generate Songs for watching someone cook while you bring playful, flirty, and slightly smug vibes. Prompt Make me a playlist for watching someone cook for you, because I don't cook - like, at all. My only job is to bring the vibes, and the music better make up for the fact that I can't boil water. It should sound playful, flirty, and a little smug. Focus on songs you think I would like." And this is the garbage that it generated. Substantially worse than any algorithmically generated playlist. And there are lots of these.
  17. Ahmad Jamal “Emerald City Nights - Live at the Penthouse 1963 - 1964” Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 2 300×266 7.11 KB
  18. Going to be real Spring weather today! Looking forward to some outdoor time. Starting the day off with disc 5 of the John Coltrane box set "Interplay" . . . which reissues "Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane"
  19. I just realized i've NEVER heard a later recording of Pollini. Would be interesting to hear the changes. I've enjoyed the four last songs a lot ... should listen again !
