  2. If anyone can find a mono lp of this session grab it - the sound/mix is far superior to the stereo. I am sorry I sold my lp when I got a cd, but luckily I made a cassette of the record.

  7. JR Monterose loved his ancient silver pre-WWII Selmer. He told me after the war the French melted down discarded Jeeps to make the next generation of saxophones.

  11. I skimmed the book couldn't find it - it must be from elsewhere. Jackie was playing the Hawkins record in his step-father's record store and was entranced that he could hear Oscar Pettiford's breathing - it made the music more "human" for him.
  12. I have most of that material on 78s. I will never forget Jackie McLean's reaction to Hawk's "The Man I Love". I believe it's in "Four Lives In The Bebop Business".
