  1. IIRC this is a collection of early Victor masters.
  2. The pieces that actually press the friggin' cds. It is still a mechanical process.
  3. Farewell.
  4. That's not the way it works. Digital masters can be duplicated but glass masters for manufacturing are expensive and one needs a press run of at least a thousand to make it worthwhile.
  5. Part of the problem is the new business structure where musicians make recordings to sell at performance sites. Side persons get paid in a few discs to sell at their gigs and they expect and get the same in return. Every time a musician hits a club or town they need something new to sell to the fans. The churn can become numbing to both the artist and audience.
  6. The QRS solos are the first 8 tracks on this:
  7. Now something for the collectors/diehards. This Fall, in celebration of our 50th anniversary, we will be issuing a cd of Lester Bowie's Numbers 1 & 2 as edited/presented for the original issue. This program has not been available since vinyl died in the '80s and has never been on cd.
  8. Much of it (if not all) was reissued on Black Lion and related labels, both cd and vinyl. Great stuff. Wish I had kept the box.
  9. A few years back his "people" contacted me about using a Fred Anderson track for a NOLA, post Katrina film he was working on. He requested an mp3 file to use in a demo he was pitching. I supplied, received a note of thanks and I guess the project didn't fly.
  10. The blue is identical to my Musidisc (France) cd from 1993.
  11. Driving home from the post office, listening to classical music on WBLV. Someone singing Puccini's Nessun Dorma and I knew what I had to do when I got home. First I dug out a Jussi Bjorling recording and followed it with Lester Bowie's version. By the time I was done, tears were streaming for a whole bunch of reasons.
  12. What kind of files did you receive from Sony? Are they 24/96, DSD, what?
  13. As far as I know all nationalities are conductors. Haven't hooked everybody up, but I think this is true.
  14. Roscoe's Quartets at the fest will be: Quartet 1 – Roscoe’s first group reconvened – Fred Berry, Alvin Fielder and Junius Paul subbing for Malachi Favors Quartet 2 – Roscoe’s “Chicago Quartet” - Tomeka Reid, Junius Paul and Vincent Davis.
  15. Today is the official release date for Nick and Tomeka's Signaling. Also of note, the City of Chicago has disclosed the Pritzker Pavilion headliners for the 2017 Chicago Jazz Festival. Of particular interest to the label is the opening program on Sunday Sept. 3. https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/dca/supp_info/chicago_jazz_festival13.html
  16. Wonderful recordings. I have the Bruch and Bloch coupled with the Dvorak conducted by Szell with the Berlin.
  17. That can be arranged for another 5 grand.
  18. A well done series.
  19. Gower Champion, Gene Autry, Audrey Meadows
  20. Just take it as it comes.
  21. Bought this as a new release, on vinyl, back in the day and it still sounds good. I need to compare it to the others I currently have - Wit and Rosbaud.
  22. Currently John is playing Pent-up House with Rollins, Clifford and Max.
