  1. also Ajay and variants.
  2. Sorry to hear this. He made it to 90.
  3. I have not spoken directly with Roscoe today but it seems his chair at Mills is safe. I believe he has 2 more years on his contract.
  4. I always considered this a great 10" lp.
  5. Disc 3 of this - what a great sequence of songs
  6. Wow. Say "hey" to Henry for me if you have a chance.
  7. These were part of a 2 lp box titled The Roulette Story. One side was "historic" material, another the Thad, another the Lee and finally an early Coltrane quartet. I bought a copy in Des Moines while still in high school.
  8. This post made me think of some of my interactions with Bud Freeman and prompted me to post this on Facebook: I am certain my kids will remember musicians from the studio, or coming around the apartment. I'm pretty certain they remember Roscoe, Wadada, Von, Hal, Fred, Eddie, Wilbur, etc. I wonder about their memories of Bud Freeman. I invited Bud to return to Chicago for the Jazz Fest and he decided to stay. We had dinner at our place a few times and went to a couple of Bears games. He was "uncle Bud" at the time. I treasure those memories and many more.
  9. Didn't stay with him long enough to hear the Schubert.
  10. What a perfect time for me to plug our August release. The editing error you mention afflicts all of the Flying Fish distributed records with the white cover. The error was mine (teaching me to listen to samples again and again) and it was not corrected during that era. Our August cd release (50th Anniversary) is a new 24 bit mastering of the original lp program without the error. I thought the correct program of the first issue should be available. YMMV.
  11. They were issued in Japan on this - TOCJ-66014
  12. Thanks. Not sure why I couldn't find that in a couple of days searching. Duh.
  13. I used to have a decent (by my standards) representation of the band on vinyl, but they are gone. I wanted to get a decent cd representation and see the Timeless Historical release is priced out of consideration. I bought the Avid set with 49 titles because it was really cheap but there is absolutely no discographical info in the set. Has anyone sorted this out???
  14. What is commonly done and what the contract says became 2 different things when labels suddenly wanted to fill up compact discs. Unissued sessions are another issue.
  15. It is a complicated issue and not one size fits all. Generally, if the recording was made under a union contract the label is not free to issue extra material without compensation and/or permission in most cases. Union recording contracts are based on minutes of finished music for a fee. The rules for alternate takes are a bit hazy since the union rules were written in the days of 78s and second and third takes were used to replace damaged masters. Using that logic to claim "ownership" in the digital age is stretching it a bit. Many artists are happy to agree to alternates if it means more publishing money since publishing rates are based on elapsed time. I paid the Art Ensemble $XX,000 for the previously unissued material in the box set I issued.
  16. A fascinating compilation. Thanks for the reminder.
  17. Posted for Ed and any others who missed it.
  18. Larry, it was the Welk Music Group, not Moss Music. Six of the titles are on Vanguard cds by "The Basie Bunch" - Too Marvelous For Words and Cool Too.
  19. Ditto - If you have a set and the binding hasn't failed, you are a special person. Great offer.
  20. Thanks for the news. I had read of his problems on FB and heard no more.
