The difference is probably the mastering engineer.

Thanks to Uli for the heads up. I posted this on FB yesterday and it received tons of responses. My professional career started at JRM, as did many others. The jazz world owes a bunch to this place.

I have not been able to properly digest the last dozen of your discs - all more than worthy but there is only so much time. All I can do is hope to live another 20 years and keep distractions at a minimum. All this stuff is a product of a real "American Original". Better to be overwhelmed than just whelmed.

Lester would not have done it for scale. As I understand it, D Bowie was friends with Joe Bowie and made arrangements through him.

My collection software says I entered the box in September of 2004. Lots of other fine stuff in the set including the Dial sessions by the Pro Arte Quartet. I have had some of the Dial lps for decades and treasure them. I am certain I have praised this box on this board a couple of times.

I always found it interesting he hired his "cousin" Lester for the Black Tie White Noise project.

I had the Shepp on an original Saba lp and now have it in a nice Japanese, gatefold, facsimile cd.

May favorite memories of Paul are late night conversations in bars or coffee shops. He was a wonderful/probing conversationalist. Paul, Cecil and Muhal are my favorite keyboard artists of the era. I have been lucky it know all of them. I have learned more than I can understand from all 3.

Beyond his musicianship, he was a fascinating individual. Many fond memories. RIP.
