  1. Many thanks for all your work. Delighted by the Bobby Bradford interview - I can hear his voice as I read it.
  2. I concur with all Jim says about the session, BUT think he missed the name Ray Barretto.
  3. I posted a positive rant in favor of the Terry disc a while back and got slammed down because of the material. I learned the "All American" score from Duke's record in the '60s and enjoyed another take on the material - especially for the outstanding performances of Budd Johnson.
  4. I think I said it earlier, but I really enjoy your tour thru the Prestiges. That's where I started in the early '60s (high school) and I never followed him as far as some of your "essentials". I was disappointed when Phil replaced Dolphy, and on, and on.
  5. A favorite on vinyl in the '70s still sounds dandy now.
  6. and is cursed with a badly out of tune piano. I am amazed Eddie and/or Oliver didn't correct the situation. It was recorded at Universal, a first rate studio and it should not have happened.
  7. I have not been to the exhibit, but please check out the installation by Maya Dunietz here - http://www.maya-sram.com
  8. Last Friday night at Constellation in Chicago - Roscoe Mitchell Quartet with Maya Dunietz, Junius Paul and Mike Reed. This was my first time seeing/hearing Dunietz and she played wonderfully.
  9. Hocus pocus in the squeeze the money world.
  10. It has been a while but I never liked the DMM issues.
  11. I believe Esmond (Eddie) Edwards is a hero here. So many great transitional dates.
  12. Another thing - folks should pay attention to the Wyands, Duvivier, Haynes rhythm section - they were the guys.
  13. Phil Schaap was involved with all of these. How bout dat!
  14. I wondered when you'd deal with this disc. Nomatter the master numbers, maybe Tucker arrived late or more likely left early for another gig.
  15. Thanks to all. Had a fine day capped with a surprise party at Fetch, the local brewpub.
  16. Entered Nelson's world with Taking Care of Business and then backed up to Meet Oliver Nelson - I followed until the show biz work took over. I loved the contrast in the Nelson / Dolphy Prestige dates - Nelson solos sound like granite and Dolphy always seemed about to go off the rails.
  17. She sounds like a complete flake but our daughter had her bank frozen for a couple of weeks (IIRC) under similar circumstances.
  18. In 1966/7 Horst Lippmann was is Chicago and gave me a copy the the Schoof and a Rolf Kuhn on the same label. These "near mint" lps now reside in Japan. He came to Chicago from LA where he had just made a deal with Dick Bock for some Mangelsdorff recordings.
  19. Heard that in the early '80s and pretty much forgot.
  20. as a former Chicagoan and continuing friend of Larry, it was fun to relive this saga.
