  1. Hate to think of him spending his life with brooms and coats.
  2. Tasmanian Devil Deval Patrick Sun Ra
  3. Sorry to say I thought he was gone long ago. Seemed like a nice guy and his screen characterizations worked for me.
  4. If the alternates are "originals" the artist/estate gets extra royalties.
  5. Hines recorded 8 nice sides for QRS a day earlier (12/08/28). Fatha was a Motha.
  6. Miss Vicky Mississippi Fred McDowell Fred Mertz
  7. Benjamin Button, ain't he that gay composer guy?
  8. I go with Brad's choices. But he's gotta be strong.
  9. He's a "better than fine" musician who's lost his edge, IMO. He's still head and shoulders above most other living bass players. I just don't want to pay for his recent work.
  10. Sweet but weird cat. Interacted with him on a number of times. He would never hurt a fly. Remember sitting in a studio for hours waiting for him (the leader) to show. The band finally went ahead and did the date leaving spaces for Lin to drop in his solos. He did that a few months later. By coincidence I was in the studio one day when he was doing this and he kept calling for another and another. He was never satisfied with his playing. God bless Bob Koester for putting up with all this to make some recordings 18 people bought. Edit to say: A band including Lin, Carl Leukaufe and Jack Noren would have been a "shrink's jackpot". Every nook and cranny of "white, junkie, jazz, musician' combined in a perfect storm. Only the master of the genre, Ira Sullivan, could tame this beast. AND Ira's another story.......
  11. The largest/best proponent of this in the long presidential campaign was that silly preacher from Arkansas, Mike Huckabee!
  12. Old speakers be good. The best set I have are ADS/Braun from the '70s.
  13. Does he play lots of notes on every tune? Can you tell which ones he thinks are important?
  14. Gettin' ready for Connie on Live Chat?
  15. Yesterday morning on MSNBC's Morning Joe the Cold Play version was used as a "bump". My ears perked up.
  16. I have all 8 of the Down Beat books. No idea about the "value" but I enjoy dipping it to them over the years. Hendersonia came without a dust cover and is worth whatever you dare pay. Edit to say an Amazon seller has one with a dust cover. I ordered mine directly from Allen and it came without.
  17. I suggest a year from now Blue Note and related labels will be gone. Pay attention to ALL titles, not just the deletions. The old EMI model does not work now. The parent company will try to live off copyrights in the future, not physical product. Not cool.
  18. The ebay deal hasn't panned out. I jumped on it as soon a Hans posted and now I keep getting emails from the merchant saying they are waiting for stock. Looks like a scam.
  19. U 1 hungry mutha.
  20. That where Dow is? I think Dow is in/near Midland. Our area is mostly auto parts and office furniture. The largest employer in the county is Howmet (now an Alcoa company), makers of castings for aircraft engines. Today the UAW announced a new contract extension with Howmet for around 5 years. The members all get a $1200 signing bonus.
  21. Tilapia, baked sweet potatoes, green beans from Ann's garden and fried apples.
  22. Man, Detroit just can't win anything these days. Not only that, we are number 1 in the US of A!!!!!
  23. Boozier shows up on an Atlantic session by Bags as well as sessions with BB King, Gatemouth Brown, Bobby Bland, Al Grey/Bily Mitchell, Charlie Singleton and Paul Williams. All these were from 1952-62.
