  1. Interested parties can find a copy of my Art Ensemble box on Amazon for $349.92 in "like new" condition or for $299.99 for "very good". Is one of these you Lon?
  2. Geez, Joe, that's kinda like wanting to take seconds on the Immaculate Conception... Hey, nobody says those takes would have to be released... Then the Elite Edition would have been 4 discs!
  3. I can pass anything I want and can collect as much as possible!
  4. Something by the Luis Russell band around 1930, Henderson session of 9/22/33, one of the Billy Banks sessions and a huge bunch more. The Autograph session of duets by Morton and Oliver would be nice. Spiritual Unity would cap my day!
  5. Different label. He's talking about a series of cheap lps from 40 years ago.
  6. Most, if not all, are reissues from the Warwick catalog.
  7. Our son has plates and screws in one wrist and the same in a leg. Two nasty ice falls on consecutive years as a result of Buffalo winters. If you want, PM me and I'll send his email address.
  8. Mike wanted to keep him. The front office fired Martz.
  9. If you mean "in person" I say no.
  10. Have about 100 pounds of tapes to dump. Any better suggestions than landfill?
  11. Would you say that about Art Tatum? Tatum did let me know the important notes. That's the big diff for me.
  12. Been thinking about Freddie today. First noticed him on Dolphy's first Prestige. A couple of years later Joe Segal had me operate his tape recorder at some Wells St. club to record Freddie and a band I don't remember. I'm sure Joe still has the tapes. Next was his quintet in Madison around 1971 - Junior Cook was in the band. The next deal was at a record store in Boston (I was in charge) and Freddie said "Damn, you have all the old Blue Notes, that costs you money, thanks". This was in his CTI period. Had a couple of later experiences in a festival setting. Was impressed with him early on but paid more attention when Lester Bowie told me "Freddie is a mother fucker". Lester wanted him to play Louis in a biopic.
  13. I usually enjoyed Clem's posts and had a lot o chuckles but in his last couple of months he seemed to be troubled. Something must have happened internally. I wish the old Clem would return and if he doesn't, I wish him well.
  14. Damn.
  15. Not at home to check but I believe the Mares material is included in the NORK set on Retrieval.
  16. Kehr, Swarowsky and possibly Rilling would be from Vox, Somary probably Vanguard.
  17. Choice was a one man operation owned by Gerry McDonald. Gerry served as his own engineer and was a very nice guy. In the '50s Gerry worked for a tape recorder company (maybe Concord) and had one of the first stereo recorders on the West Coast. Dick Bock let him set up his machine at some PJ sessions to try it out. Years ago he told me he still had the tapes. He was very proud of his version of Hoagy Sings Carmichael and vowed to issue it some day.

    John Young

Have not issued it on cd yet. Not sure if I have one or two lps left. On the road so I can't check now.
  19. Strange things are happening. About 1 minutes ago we decided to watch Transsiberian via instant Netflix.
  20. The Chiaroscuro Quintessential series (it grew to 3 lps) remains unreissued. A major disappointment.
  21. I checked an found out they licensed a bunch of titles as a trial. Don't know all the titles.
  22. You be way behind the curve.
