  1. The reason the guitar trios are not included is because some of them are owned by sony and cross label issues are not possible at this time. Seems smart to concentrate on the p/b/d sides since the bulk of the guitar trio stuff is available.
  2. Well, if you're willing to count this board, sign me up, Mark! And I can say that right now, while you're still pre-kack! me 3.
  3. I think you misunderstand the urban black market in the US. When I worked at the JRM in the '60s, the vast majority of JOS sales (80%) were to working class blacks. The Sermon and House Party were at the top of the list. These were folks buying second and third copies because the others had been damaged at parties. This was primarily a white store. The singles business was a blues and r&b market at the time.
  4. How do you pay the artists involved? How do you pay publishing for the composers?
  5. Back in the first half of the '70s, when my work brought me to Manhattan every couple of weeks, I heard lots of interesting music at the Cookery and the nearby Bradley's. Nice memories.
  6. They canceled 3 from my list as well.
  7. Actually, I seek those out. Far superior to most RVG remasters. You miss a bunch of great sounding discs. Not all RVGs are good (some are real stinkers) but the majority I've bought are fine. FWIW, the 1500 series benefits from RVG more than some later issues.
  8. Just because.

How many times? We had a bunch of chances.
  10. Because Bird was occupied?
  11. While Gladys was alive, Hamp didn't control shit.
  12. Unfortunately, all those salaries are academic to me.
  13. During the summer of 1978 they were kind enough to rent the facilities to me for housing/meals/rehearsal space as Roscoe and I prepared for the recording of The Maze and L-R-G. The Studio was a wonderful resource and I'll never forget it. We could not have done it without their help.
  14. announcements of tune titles or more often take numbers to identify the recording.
  15. What in the world is THAT? I think it is Bernard and Byron Allen.
  16. Gee, older folks make errors too? Nomatter Heffley's qualifications, it is really unfortunate to make this kind of error on the very first sessions. It sets a bad "tone" for the reliability for the following text. Academics lose.
  17. I have all the lps from the issue dates and they have been part of my life since then. I was at the sessions for the two versions of For Trio. I am also interested to hear new impressions. I also await the answer to the question I posed in the earlier Mosaic thread about the material from the orchestral set.
  18. Haven't gotten the box so I haven't read the notes. If he doesn't mention Cooper, who I'm sure is credited for his performance in the discographical information, perhaps he's not familiar with his work. In order to write the booklet, he should have been. Maybe he's just young. Nice to see you back. Stick around.
  19. I received a few tapes in the '70s. All that springs to mind is some Herbie Nichols material. That was issued, without the slates which are included on the tape I received.
  20. forgive me but phonograph records were made to deliver sound/music. some issues do a better job than others because of the quality of the pressings or the quality of the mastering. i find the "collector's" search for "originals" to be an anti sound reproduction fetish. collectors never ask the best mastering of an lp, only the earliest. this, in my opinion, is against the best reproduction of the music. to me this is no different than stamp collecting. curiously, this habit has not transferred to cds where mcmasters would be sought by collectors.
  21. Nice to know you are a fan.
  22. I have a shitload of them in a box. Any bids or do they go to ebay?
  23. Damn. The mention of Phillip depressed me. Fine person. Now back to your regular programming.
  24. LOL. Well you certainly covered all of the bases with that one Sorry, no mention of Ken.
