  1. "Major label" studio time and money has messed up the music of (and in a couple of instances killed) any number of musicians after the '60s.
  2. Hope to make it on the 20th. Ann will be back in the country by then.
  3. Shelby man loses left hand -- and possibly right -- after fireworks accident Saturday, June 30, 2007 By Federico Martinezfmartinez@muskegonchronicle.com A Shelby man lost one hand -- and may lose the other -- after he altered fireworks that are popular with children and they exploded unexpectedly. Kevin Boutell, of 112 White, had gathered the contents of about 100 "snappers" into some foil when the explosive powder rubbed together and exploded in his hands. Snappers, also known as "black-eyed peas," generally are considered safe to use and are popular with children. The small packets of carbonate create a "bang" sound when they are thrown against a solid object, usually the ground. "Someone told Kevin that if you wrap them up in foil, they make a bigger bang," said Shelby Police Chief Robert Wilson. Boutell was airlifted to Grand Rapids Spectrum Hospital after the accident occurred at his home on Wednesday, Wilson said. The accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the driveway of his residence. Boutell, who is listed in fair condition at Spectrum, had his left hand amputated earlier this week, according to hospital officials and Shelby police. "He lost pretty much his whole left hand," Wilson said. "There was some damage to his right. They may have to amputate his right hand, too." Boutell's exact age was not available, but Wilson said Boutell is in his late 20s. According to police reports, Boutell had recently purchased 12 packs of "snappers," which can be legally purchased at gas stations and retail stores. Boutell, who said he knows Wilson well, said the accident is a wake-up call to everybody who handles fireworks. "Do what the label says," said Wilson. "And put them on the ground."
  4. This thread indicates the difficulty of separating composition from performance in jazz. My first choice would probably be "Crepuscule" but that might be because of orchestration and performance.
  5. It isn't OK but it costs too much to protect the copyright. That is the big flaw in the law. One would think if you paid the government for a copyright, they would prosecute on your behalf but that is not the way it is. There are dozens of "blogs" out there now offering downloads of current material for free. Legal fees to stop this are more than the companies can make from legal issues. The thieves are taking advantage of this situation.
  6. Oddly no posts differentiate between his "technical" playing and his "idea" playing. It would be entirely possible for his "technique" to improve while the "invention" flags and the inverse too. THAT is worthy of discussion.
  7. And the people responsible for those packages have been terminated. I know there was a bunch of stuff in the pipeline before the closing of the Fantasy facility so it will take (maybe) a year for the "Concord produced" items to reach the public.
  8. That's why I wasn't sent to VietNam. IIRC the Army medical officer said "induction of Mr Nessa would be detrimental to both Mr Nessa and the Army.
  9. Some guy named Dick Cheney knew all about student (and other) deferrals.
  10. Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, Tower of Power, Ten Wheel Drive, etc.
  11. Can I make a record with Ray Charles? Please.
  12. That 'splains a bunch.
  13. What part of " R.I.P. - he was one of the first drummers I really listened to" did I misunderstand?
  14. Eldee was the bass player. He played cello too. Always a positive spirit when I encountered him.
  15. Maybe y'all should get a room.
  16. I was expecting stir fried palmetto bugs.
  17. I guess "up" is the operative word.
  18. All the best in the new location. I take it members can stay with you and you will cook.
  19. Even though you are now a 'bone player. They are the worst.
  20. Wishing he hadn't taken the "money" turn.
  21. You can bet yo ass it is better than "Poddy Pahpah - Coal Blues".
  22. The first (only?) Wilson on Classics is 1945-46. The Jazz Factory seems to be a reissue of a 1954 date issued on Audiolab, Federal and King. JF adds to these 8 titles another 7, said to be from a concert in 1950. No duplication.
