  1. Earl Cross made some recordings with Charles Tyler and one of them is on my label.
  2. The Pulitzer is basically a journalism prize that grew into a literary prize and now music. Classical composers were recognized first and eventually jazz.

  16. I met her XX years ago and while having a drink I mentioned how much I admired (and tried to emulate) her first husband. She said "Yeah, he was my idol too".
  17. In 1963, or thereabouts, I was at the U of Iowa and one afternoon wandered into the "literary" bar for an afternoon beer. The only customer patted the bar stool next to him and motioned for me to sit. It was Vonnegut and I was an English undergrad. He didn't know me, he just wanted someone to interact with. I sat at the stool for a couple of hours, drank beer and do not remember anything we discussed. What a loss.
  18. I echo most of Brad's post with a wish the MFin' Imus stayed on the air, at the same stations to "pay the price" every day for as long as he lives. I will miss the MSNBC show 5 days a week.
