  1. Maybe I could start a new label, buy one mike, find a long room, not pay anyone, convince a bunch of folks I'm ok and have a catalog of 400 cds.
  2. Kent Kessler Clark Kent Stan Kenton
  3. The entire piece could have been one paragraph. BFD. We be stupid. End of story,
  4. It depends on the type of music - especially in Chicago. If I went to a Gene Ammons gig and nobody talked back to Gene and the band I'd know I was part of a really up-tight white audience AND the music would suffer.
  5. That sounds fabulous!! Could you post the recipe? Received permission. -_- 2 lb pork tenderloin 12 oz chili sauce 16 oz can cranberry sauce (we use 'whole', you can use 'jellied') 2 Tbsp brown sugar 5 cups cooked long grain rice 1. Pork in slow cooker 2. Mix chili sauce, cranberries and brown sugar 3. Pour over pork 4. Cover and cook on "high" 4-5 hours, then on "low" 3-4 hours. 5. Serve over rice. For the third meal (sandwiches) reduce the sauce and shred the pork.
  6. That sounds fabulous!! Could you post the recipe? Gotta ask Ann.
  7. Tom from Jazz Music Depot recently offered some Black & Blue cds here. Two of them were by a quintet of Budd and Charlie Shavers. I recommend both. Budd is a "monster" on a couple of Gil Evans records. I heard him in person a number of times. He played the Chicago Jazz Festival at least 3 times when I was involved and was a dream to work with. We had him in a Hines "reunion" big band, backing B B King and working in an all-star group. I will never forget one night relaxing in a lounge with him, Melba Liston and Randy Weston. It was "old home" time for those three. I deeply regret not taking him up on a couple of invitations to visit his NY (Brooklyn) apartment. Such a sweet man.
  8. Pork roast, slow cooked in cranberry sauce. We will have two "proper" meals with this and eat the leftovers on hard rolls.
  9. Very fine show indeed! Barry and Swell were outstanding. Swell has developed into a masterful instrumentalist. Hilliard Greene has really grown into his role since I last heard the band. I've always been ambivalent about Ullmanns' playing, nothing negative, it just never struck me. Last night I felt very positive about his tenor playing but the bass clarinet didn't do anything special for me beyond the colors the instrument added to the ensemble. I urge the Chicago members to go to the Velvet tonight.
  10. Last time they came through here Ullmann had top billing. This time Swell. Possibly 'cause Swell has been getting some attention here recently.
  11. who?
  12. Say, suh, pass me that Don Redman platter... "Chant of the Weed," baby! Be very, very careful. Horny is watching.
  13. Never warmed to Katchen. He seemed a bit bland to me. Might have been a blind spot, but one I live with.
  14. Not me. I use him correctly.
  15. BTW, all my friends using Smack use it correctly - no abuse involved.
  16. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
  17. As a lame English major, I stand by my post. His problem was a substance. Your abuse might be my sustenance. what the hell does this have to do with my releases?
  18. Sorry to hear of his death. Seems he had a nice time while he was with us.
  19. Jeez. IIRC, he died on the band bus. Abuse indeed and the substance was the tool. Nothing weird involved. Some point you wish to make?
  20. All you Kentonites should check out his solos with Stan. Wonderful.
  21. Coffee has always been good for you. So has beer and whiskey. I'll be depressed when they decide smack is fine, since I've avoided that. Nembutal bad.
  22. I've met several folks who knew Barry and they all said what a sweet guy he was. Some also mentioned his massive record collection. All of those folks said that stuff after lamenting his substance problem. Edit to say (about the collection) Bob Porter told me "He even had some of your records".
  23. "Convolution?" That's the title of Bertrand's imaginary BN debut.
  24. Lazaro, Uncle Skid and I will be there. Anyone else?
