  1. Sadly, nothing there I'd want to buy.
  2. Do you know this from professional experience?
  3. Forget famous pianists. If you want a 20th century version (different than the original instrument crowd) I suggest the Naxos series by Jeno Jando. REALLY! Anyone wanting the Uchida/Tate version, email me. I will send it for "postage".
  4. There should be a bunch of Rek-o-k(c?)ut tables around in stores. They used to be "everywhere". Try junk stores. Wish I'd picked one up.
  5. Am I the only person to think Red and Monk would have been wonderful? Could be - it happened before when I tried to put together a duo session with Earl Hines and Ruby Braff. Stanley Dance and Dan Morgenstern told me I was out of my mind. I still regret taking their advise.
  6. My introduction to Tony Scott was a Seeco lp called The Modern Art of Jazz. It was recorded the year Brownie met the man. This session included Clark Terry, Jimmy Knepper, Sahib Shihab, Bill Evans, Milt Hinton, Henry Grimes and Paul Motian. It seems the session yielded 3+ lps of material and would be a good beginning for a "Select". Tony's (self produced?) sessions around this time are a mess and need a smart guide to sort it all out.
  7. I think Diz taught rhythm patterns to many people in many hotels in many parts of the globe.
  8. So who's the bummed guy - a volunteer singer waiting for his shot?
  9. Reminds me the last time I saw him - Bleecker St carrying his drums to a gig. Such a happy cat at the time.
  10. I feel lucky. Almost 4 years ago our mortgage had about 3 years left but we had credit card debt, an outstanding business loan and needed a new roof. We rolled it all together in a 15 year deal at 4.5.
  11. He probably gets his "fill" of trios with Keith.
  12. I sang the praises of this cd in a Getz thread last year. Very fine indeed. The only trace of more by this band is the following entry in Bruyninckx: -Stan Getz/Gerry Mulligan- : Stan Getz Quartet : Stan Getz (ts) poss Stanley Cowell (p) Miroslav Vitous (b) Jack DeJohnette (d) c. 1969 Step up, swing out (Stan's blues) J For Jazz JFJ804 Bossanova bauble (Lorraine) - Pitchman (Con alma) - Sandy at the beach (Lover man) - Spain - Bogansville hooks (Desafinado) - Song for Strayhorn (Con alma) - Waltzing Matilda (Wave) - Note : Real titles are between bracets and Gerry Mulligan is not even present on the above session !
  13. I've seen musicians signal fades to the control room on a few occasions.
  14. That seems to have been Lucky's doing. When I licensed "Soul's Nite Out" from Ensayo ( I called the record Body and Soul) I inquired about the fades and asked for the "complete" masters they responded the fades were made during the session at Lucky's signal.
  15. Not counting the early Pathe titles, the Columbia/Brunswick/Master titles (not counting alternates and the small group stuff on Mosaic) runs to 7 cds. I have the Classics and deleted the small group stuff for some cdrs and have 7 discs (180 titles) covering 1931-1940. The Pathe titles were included in the French lp series but will probably be excluded in the future Mosaic box.
  16. I thought Michigan Connection meant something else. Excuse the intrusion. Just want to point out the topic title has changed.
  17. No. The Prestige set was from January and the Storyville is December.
  18. I hear the big bands are coming back too.
  19. Here it is: previous mention
