  1. I caught the band between the 2 sessions at the Plugged Nickel in the Fall of '68. The rhythm section was Corea, Holland & Williams and Chick looked scared all night.
  2. From the massive Mitropoulos box - Greek conductor, Russian composer, Minnesota orchestra - what could go wrong?
  3. Only played about half of the discs but no problems here.
  4. While I enjoyed lavish/fancy/complicated packages in the early days of cds, I am now irritated it is a pain in the ass to play the Ray Charles Atlantic sessions, Charlie Christian Columbias, Billie Holiday Deccas, Art Pepper Vanguard session, Lu Watters Yerba Buena Jazz Band, etc.
  5. I enjoy the Feldman set as well. Now listening to an old friend.
  6. I've also been revisiting this 3 disc set -
  7. The 3 alternates are on the RVG version of BN 1579 and everything else (and more) is on the Standards disc.
  8. In the early '80s I was on a mission to collect BN 78s, concentrating on the 12" discs. I loaned some to Cuscuna for later reissues.
  9. I have Blue Note 48 (12" 78), Blues Before Sunrise / How Long, How Long Blues. I also have one of the Bernhardt records. I have 41 of the 52 12" 78s.
  10. The Dickenson session is in Mosaic 109 - Hall/Johnson/DeParis/Dickenson Sessions.
  11. w/ Hal Singer, Claude Hopkins, Wendell Marshall & Bobby Donaldson.
  12. Unless you find something, the best source I know is https://jazzresearch.com/category/pacific-jazz/
  13. Probably my favorite Blakey.
