  1. Don't have it anymore but have fond memories of the string quartet side (unissued Signal date).
  2. I'm and idiot in two (count 'em, two) centuries. Y'all should know that by now.
  3. Just 21st century idiots not knowing 20th century corporate histories.
  4. Just want to point out my Hoffman mention was "in passing" and not an "attack" on Hans, Hoffman, RVG, McMaster, Scientology or any other religion. Don't think I have complained about or praised any mastering "engineers" in this thread. I'm just bugged about the whole situation and all the bitching. Some folks throw around terms like compression, noise reduction, NoNoise and Cedar the way "talk radio" folks talk about bird flu. I just get really irritated. Whatever happened to tone controls, equalizers, etc. In the days of vinyl (the golden age of audio - right?) the freaks had "plots" for each of their favorite records. Now folks just bitch about the newest edition and if you don't like it they tell you your equipment isn't "good enough" to reveal the flaws. HORSE SHIT!
  5. Don't think he'd have noticed or cared enough to write about it. Used to get frequent letters and postcards from Kenny and he was all "peace, love, beauty and joy".
  6. Saw him a bunch of times and was always delighted. One time sticks in my mind for an extra-musical reason. In the late '70s he was in Chicago with a local rhythm section. At the end of the 2nd set Jackie took the mike and lectured the audience about taking Wilbur Campbell for granted 'cause he was local. He said "Wilbur is one of the originators and you MUST treasure him".
  7. Time for you to tell me what I don't understand. Guess I'm just dense.
  8. Emphasised overtones can shift perceptions of the tonal center.
  9. I can supply my own fascination and don't need the frustration. No need to spend money.
  10. I thought you said he joined the US Marines. There's a news story and thread starter.
  11. The whole concept bugs me. If a composition is good and catches the ears of others it will be performed again. Bunches of great compositions are ignored/missed by the crowd. Now, there's a thread.
  12. Well, I didn't even know of the book and I think I know this material. Convince me!
  13. If Stanley is really "on" Jackie, get him the fuck off!
  14. There IS a difference between "Everything is Possible" and "Anything is Possible".
  15. (Without reading the piece yet) The same thing that's happend to popular white music (only different).
  16. You can play in tune sharp and you can play in tune flat.
  17. Hard to believe Rooster didn't lead off with this. Andrew plays Ceora.
  18. In 1950 a Getz session was issued on Birdland 6001 and 6002. IRRC this was a Bob Weinstock partnership with Levy. The session is now recognized as a Prestige session. The next Birdland session I'm aware of was a Lockjaw date also now Prestige. I suggest contacting Bob Porter.
  19. True, so why not leave it alone. No mastering engineer (lp or cd) can afford to "leave it alone" since the recording engineer didn't. Choices are made ALL the time. You seem to be a big fan of Hoffman - he doesn't "leave it alone". Every person in the "illusion" chain has their own needs and agendas.
  20. Why on earth would anyone bring back a hoosier thread?
  21. Sweet dreams Hans.
  22. I just don't understand how mastering "techniques" (good or bad) trump music. Music is the ultimate issue, not engineering.
