  1. Probably the first time it has been bootlegged too.
  2. Conte was proud of it and wanted to promote it.
  3. I have and I have a few hundred of them right here. I also have the labelmate recording of Social Call by Rouse with Red Rodney, Albert Dailey, etc. I think these are Rouse's best dates by far. They are also primo examples of RVG at the top of his game.
  4. Yup. If I'm not mistaken, this is in the topic header.
  5. Please tell me you meant Chaney. You edited before I could post. You typed CHENEY you knucklehead.
  6. Plesse tell me you meant Chaney.
  7. I'm getting frequent error pages tonight and have to hit refresh. My avatar has gone away too. What is the problem.
  8. Never heard of stuff being "charged back" for free cds but artists usually get zippo from record club sales. This is covered by contracts they signed when they took money for the date. Some details might be challenged but most of it is up front some way or other. If an artist feels abused by the practice, the rewards are not worth the legal expense.
  9. That means it dissolves in water. Right?
  10. The Bush supporters MUST be the guys with all the money. Wheezie and Berry must pay 30% each, followed by Conn and Greg K. More to follow.
  11. That's why I mailed a check.
  12. Charles Tyler's "Saga of the Outlaws". Yes, I know this was issued on my label, but I bought the tape from Charles and have never had the money to reissue it. I just don't want Charles and this record forgotten.
  13. Thanks guys. Please don't tell anyone I killed Rudolph and he's hanging from a tree in my front yard. Some nice steaks this winter. Some good news for those remembering the early messages. The acetate changes with breaks in various performances match up perfectly (with a few pitch corrections) so no solos are interrupted. This stuff does take time to do correctly so the thieves have good source material. Y'all remember there is only one set of discs and we got 'em. The Gillespie estate cleared it and all that (shortly) follow are stealing our work. I think you will be amazed.
  14. Not in time for Christmas. Not my fault. My work is done.
  15. No mention of Bobby Wellins?
  16. This date was issued on 3 Delmark lps now combined on Ice Cream and another disc called Hello Central. Excellent stuff.
  17. In the early '60s Vernon and sister label MVM (Mount Vernon Music) issued a number of cheap lps from various sources including Musicraft and Rae Cox/Enrica. They may have been connected with another cheapo outfit called Sutton. I had records by Ellington, Lightnin' Hopkins, Ed Hall and Bennie Green.
  18. As far as I know. I last heard him about 2 years ago and he sounded fine.
  19. IIRC, this is some of the Musicraft masters from 1946. I had this lp many years ago.
  20. I know Ira. Twenty seven years ago I produced one of his records. Very interesting human and a terrific musician.
  21. As long as Randy has a "heads up", let the sucker go. No skin off my but.
  22. Are we talkin' 'bout Toledo?
  23. Just talk to us Jim.
  24. All this crap depends on 'what you want'. If you only need a list of the recordings in your inventory with sidemen, tune titles, track timings, etc; one of the commercial programs will suffice. I'm locked into CD Trustee since my daughter gave it as a Christmas gift a few years ago. I understand another program may be superior but it works for me. I have any number of discographies to sort out the details. It uses the CDDB database and despite the flaws, it saves a bunch of time and key strokes. I always enter corrections from the disc and additional material. My main reason for any sort of database is to have a reliable list of my collection so I can make intelligent purchase choices and for the insurance man.
  25. In a Candoli thread on AAJ (available HERE) I posted the following: One of my early jazz lps was a Crown disc (stereo - red vinyl) called "Little Band, Big Jazz" by Conte. The rest of the band was Buddy Collette, Vince Guaraldi, Leroy Vinnegar and Stan Levey. This disc was stolen from my dorm room during the summer of '62. That fall I went to a concert in Des Moines by Shelly Manne and his Men. Conte was in the band with Richie Kamuca, Russ Freeman and Monty Budwig. I talked to Conte after the concert, told him how much I liked the record and mentioned it had been stolen. He said he had a box of that record back in his room and invited me to meet him at the hotel for a new copy. I sat waiting in the lobby and here comes Conte and Russ, looking for me. I later heard him with Supersax and in a group we assembled for the Chicago Jazz Festival. After the fest he played at Joe Segal's in an all-star group including Jaki Byard. I remember an intermission at Joe's, sitting at the bar with Conte and Jaki. The crowd was very small that night and Conte was lamenting the lack of fans who remembered him as a "home town guy" or even as an important player.
