  1. We'll probably check out the Chicago fest. If not, I'll either recreate something in my head and failing that play some of my tapes from the days I was involved.

    Steve Lacy

Not as an interpreter of Thelonious Monk.

No Oliver Nelson charts performed at Town Hall, Philharmonic Hall or the Chicago reunion. Thank God for that. I do have a tape of the reunion.
  4. Fred was in the Roscoe Mitchell Quartet circa 1962-64. Other members were Malachi Favors and Alvin Fielder.
  5. Floyd LeFlore, Fred Berry and the (relatively) famous Baikida Carroll.

I really hated it when the Cubs traded you.
  7. Having been there "a thousand times" and loving the place, I really appreciated the shot of the Blackstone Hotel under construction. Thanks Chris - many more hours on the internet ahead.
  8. Joe, we've all had enough of your crap and will be delighted if you restrict you posting. If you hadn't noticed, Impossible is a complete idiot without any sense at all.

Joe, I used to hawk your lps. Forget restraint, jump in and become an asshole like me. B)
  10. 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL a day. It makes you attack Gene Harris fanatics, otherwise known as the One Sound.
  11. Nah, that's from the year that I quit smoking.... SHIT! I've lost 57 pounds in the last year and am now taking DRUGS my doctor gave me to stop smoking.
  12. I can tell you about my reactions at the time (and my friends). We thought Wayne was a MOTHER and were disappointed by the first couple of BN records under his name. We felt he'd "lost focus". I'm sure Vee Jay sold a (relative) bunch of this lp 'cause I saw it much more often (in private collections) than other Vee Jay jazz sides.
  13. Jim, it looks like you put on a couple of pounds this past year.
  14. I think you misread the liners. I don't think there are any commercial recordings of Lennie from the '70s. C Minor Complex was issued on the original lp and subsequent reissues except the Rhino cd.
  15. Not a goof - 2 different pieces. Rhino did include C Minor Complex in a piano anthology issued at the time.
  16. I just received a new transfer yesterday. I have to live with it a few days to decide if I approve. No date yet.
  17. Depends on the price. If you can buy the first 2 BN discs and the first 2 Verves you have the real "meat". If you need more, the complete stuff is dandy, with the warning that Bud's recordings from '53 until death is a hit or miss deal. More misses than hits, but this is the "real deal". I love it all.
  18. This is such a load of crap, Nessa. Why put "jazz fans" in quotes if you aren't challenging the self-identification of these so-called "fans"? If you meant no offense, why do you challenge the bona fides of these JAZZ FANS? Why does their very existence on the these boards give you such a "huge bummer"?? They don't measure up to YOUR STANDARDS of what constitutes a "jazz fan" and so to you, they aren't really jazz fans at all. Well fuck you very much. Yes Dan. How could I have been so wrong? etc.
  19. Good to know you can insult yourself. Saves some of us time! I guess you are smarter than I thought.
  20. Some of us have to "imagine" power from somewhere.
  21. I just notice there are more messages in the "Rush" thread. Maybe I should shoot myself. I'll ignore messages from Dan. B)
  22. Think so? Don't have to wait. What kind of dweep needs to post his cd collection to the world? Hope I did not disappiont you chubby. Kinda like saying "I got a big one".
  23. Poll looks like a big insult to people discovering jazz before 1993. I beat that by almost 40 years. Way to go. Geez - might there be sumpin' you don't know? Probably not.
  24. Big bunch of esp's, Delmarks and nessa's (also all the European Bygs, Pathes, etc.) recorded during this span. Bummer no member noticed.
