  1. Nah, you responded, so you "give a shit".!
  2. Have not bought the set, 'cause I'm sure I have 90% of the music. In my early "career" I admired LK, in my retail career bought records directly from Les (wish I could find the letters), and around 1980 spent a day in the offices at 8481 Melrose Place. Saw the warehouse/studio, recording booth and mastering facility. We all should bow down to Lester Koenig, Alfred Lion, Nesuhi Ertegun and a host of others. We all owe as much to them as to the musicians we worship!
  3. I think this poll is insulting. Please, this has nothing to do with my earlier battle with Dan. We are asked, what might be, the most personal questions about our life. Sorry, the very life of the poll repulses me. Does this have anything to do with "music" or "jazz"? Anyone with the "balls" can email me for my personal sexual experiences, current or earlier. I will decide if I want to share the information. So I say "Stick it where the sun don't shine"! On second thought, maybe Dan is looking for a chance to posl his "conquests". I think this is almost as stupid as posting your collection online!
  4. Even if the message from Bertrand is correct, do you really need this material when there are 5000 Morgan records out there?
  5. General wisdom: Not from the Lighthouse, not same material, does not sound good. If you have the BN Lighthouse set, want more in worse sound, get the FS material.
  6. AFAIK, Hardman led no dates between the Savoy and the first Muse. Schlitten did not have a label between Muse/Onyx and Xanadu. Onyx only had the silver series. Onyx ended, not because of licensing problems, but in litigation between Don and Joe Fields (Muse). I have no idea about these "red" issues.
  7. The anguished cries of my enemies preceeding me. B)
  8. Same here. My set should arrive tomorrow or the day following. I don't mind the "bundled cd" idea.
  9. You should go the the New World site and check out the various "quantity deals". I think if you buy 2, you get 1 free OR buy 10 and the disc price drops to $10. The 2 disc set has notes by Stanley Crouch and Bill Weilbacher (producer). The other volume has 4 pages of notes by Weilbacher.
  10. So where's a Bobo Stensen set!!!!
  11. Have not seen the film, not a "Schbielburg" fan and I think the film MUST suck for a jazz fan. B) Golson has to be one of the easier autographs from the picture. Gotta love the "marketing" for the photo! America at it's "best/worst". Shit, they even have a website or two.
  12. Another vote for Roots and Herbs - great collection of Shorter compositions performed on the edge.
  13. I have 'em all and voted for Miles and Gil 'cause whenever I play it I'm "sidetracked" for a day or two! I HAVE to keep listening! Hope this doesn't fuck up the poll. I think boxes 5-7 have a shitload of useless crap.
  14. If you wan "originals" and you have money, a couple of weeks. You must have "big money". If you want the music, much less.
  15. Shame on you. Read the damn book. Mostly great stuff. I'm still pissed a Safford for dubbing a bit of the cd from vinyl.
  16. I do not understand your point.
  17. Hey, I be doin' Scotch (after we get there - Ann can drive home ). Vodka on the road might be fine for you. B)
  18. If you are buying, the odds get real good.
  19. Marshlands is a Storyville "best of" disc. Better off buying one of the real Storyvilles.
  20. IIRC, Hastings is about 25 miles SE of Grand Rapids.
  21. Kinda interesting how the Pistons "bookend" Phil's career.
  22. Don't have a clue about the spelling, but it looks like time for fondue, fawn due, phaundo, Phan Du. I think on of these is a neighbor.
  23. All this stuff about Ray has me digging up memories (both good and not so good) about working with Ray at the Chicago Jazz Festival. I "forced" Mr Charles (with money) to perform with a recreation of his old band with Fathead, Hank, Marcus, etc. It was both wonderful and a bummer at the same time. If I have time to sort this stuff out (in my scrambled head), I will post some details. I am trying to sort out the complete personnel. I think we used Pretty Purdie on drums and unfortunately, Phil Upchurch on bass! I wanted to include Don Wilkerson in the band, but Fathead and Hank said "there will be nothing for him to play". My favorite memory is Hank kissing me after the gig and him saying "People been trying to do this for years, and you finally did it". I'm not certain Ray felt the same way. I don't think that sort of thing happened again.
  24. John has done it! Circle on the front, full shit on the back. Way to go. Bill, get to work.
  25. Dan, if you have a chance. if your local store has a sale, if someone offers you one, if you trip on it, get a friggin' clue. We will all profit.
