I have a tape of Monk in the '50s introducing the tunes, thanking the audience and introducing the rest of the trio.

Big bucks on ebay, when is shows up every decade or so. I ordered my copy from France soon after it was announced (1981). I do not remember the cost but it was HUGE for me at the time. It is an amazing work but the first time I opened the book the glue in the binding gave way and pages came loose. I looked through it and put it back in the shipping carton. I have (maybe) opened it five times since then. I just weighed the book (in carton) and it hits 7.5 pounds. Of the books mentioned in this thread I have Bird, Hendersonia, Sun Ra and the AEOC.

I was trying to insult you by mentioning Bread. B) Actually, as a former Chicago music biz type, I met Dennis DeYoung a couple of times and knew Bill Traut (producer of their first few records and, at the time, owner of Wooden Nickel.

Can you please give a brief description about its content (the description on the AEC site reveals nothing for me)? Thank you. It is a hardback, page size about 9.5" x 12.75", 30+ black and white photos, interviews with the musicians and short essays by Chicago Beau, Mike Hennesey, Isio Saba, Hartmut Geerken, etc. The book is 104 pages, fairly large type and was printed and bound in Italy.

Revenge contains the April 17 concert but excludes Sophisticated Lady.

In 1991 Musidisc issued a cd version of the America lps.

It was published in 1998. As jlh says the AEC sells it HERE. Sometimes Dusty Groove has it too.

Scanning the BN discography reveals no logical suspects. A possibility is a compilation from the material (then) unreissued 10" series. The last of these compilations was Lou Donaldson's Quartet/Quintet/Sextet (1537). Artists with enough unreissued material include Julius Watkins, Elmo Hope and Gil Melle.

Yes indeed! I just got home and was listening to Roscoe, Wadada and Braxton on Lazaro's show.

The program was called Look Up and Live. The show taped Lennie's group at the Half Note and broadcast it. No overt religious message. The material has been on several labels over the years. They play Background Music, 317 E 32nd and Subconscious-Lee.

TEHO - to each his own. I think this depends on the size of your collection and your appreciation of the music. I'd say if you don't have around 3000 cds, live with what you have and buy some new music.

I first heard his music about 30 years ago, had lp recordings and they went away in my big vinyl purge of the '90s.
