  1. Please understand this group only plays 2 tunes lasting about 12 minutes. The rest of the set is fine if you like BE, but I don't want to misrepresent it.
  2. Great news Chris. Good to have you back. Everyone needs to remember - Deep is just a moniker, not a description.
  3. He was also one of the all time great people to throw a few down with. I had the pleasure a few times. He was an instant friend and confidant - completely open, nothing held back.
  4. It is free. Just create a member name and password.
  5. Jim might need a warning for goading.
  6. It was a great pleasure to spend some time with you guys too. It is always fun to see how "board personalities" translate into human beings. Don't get out of Whitehall much, but you can count on our attendance at future gigs. PS for Jim; the Willis Jackson/Pat Martino date I mentioned was issued as Single Action.
  7. That's the one.
  8. Wasn't Girth Hardwood in the classic "Scrubbing Bubbles"?
  9. If you can't find a low milage Pinto, I suggest a Corvair.
  10. I'm afraid I won't post these for copyright reasons. They belong to Nils Winther. Come to my place and I'll show 'em to you.
  11. Progression, an alternate of Tautology, is missing from the Prestige date. Maybe others, but this jumped out at me.
  12. As I said in the other thread, I have two 8x10s of Hank taken at this date. His hair is gray, but he does not look like a "broken man" in those shots. I did some work for SteepleChase at the time (set up and ran their US office). I think this was just an unfortunate choice of photos for the cd package.
  13. Please tell us your middle name is Richard.
  14. Yeah, but they ain't Wombles. Remember you're a Womble.
  15. Does this thread topic mean Joe G is intimidated by "guys with posts"?
  16. Clarinet/piano/drums(or washboard, or banjo) trios were very common on record in the 20s. Many examples are available by Johnny Dodds, Jelly Roll Morton, Jimmy Blythe, Omer Simeon, Jimmy O'Bryant, etc. Pee Wee Russell made some dandy trio sides in the 40s and Bud Freeman substituted the tenor for clarinet in a famous series for Commodore. Bud also did tenor/piano/drums sides in the 50s for Grand Award and Dot. In the '60s Bud made a wonderful record for UA with two guitars (George Barnes and Carl Kress).
  17. That would be good. We may be there 'til late (9:00).
  18. UICA's annual Holiday Artist's Market is taking place from 5 'til 9. My wife is a potter and a couple of her friends will be selling stuff there. Last year we ran into Lazaro and family at the event.
  19. Strange coincidence - my wife and I will be at UICA earlier in the evening for another event.
  20. I want to echo Ed's mention. We go there at every opportunity. Our son lives in the area. If you have the chance, go.
  21. July 9, 1953 Lester and Warne Marsh sat side by side for a Metronome All Stars date. At one point Prez looked at Warnie and said "you sound just like me!". This date is available on the Verve Billy Eckstine set. Warne is fantastic on this date.
  22. FWIW, I have a (Japanese) Blakey discography from 1991, which includes the following commercial release: ART BLAKEY AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS LIVE IN STOCKHOLM (Dragon / DIW-344) 11-23-59 Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Walter Davis Jr., Jymie Merritt, Art Blakey Close Your Eyes Like Someone In Love Lester Left Town The Midget A Night In Tunisia Of course, sometimes the dates and locations on such live concerts can be shown to be inaccurate as years pass and scholarship increases... I have this on Dragon DRCD 182.
