NO SHIT?? Now I remember you. Of course Arno Marsh was the key. Is your father still alive. Didn't we go over to your house after the gig? I remember being at someone's house who had the Verve record "WOODY '58". I tried to buy it. It may have been yours and you wouldn't part with it. As a result one of the trumpet players lifted it from the collection. If you remember losing that Lp then it was your crib. Man, this is too much. WINGY I don't remember anybody lifting any of my sides and it was my crib we hung out at. Early that morning I believe I dropped you and Farrell off at the hospital... My father is now 75, very much alive, and doing very well.. In fact, he is living in Boulder City, NV and is playin' quite a bit. He recently inherited a 1952 Selmer Mark VI that was originally owned by Stan Getz! He occasionally tours with Fred Radke's bands and has a Basie like Monday night gig somewhere in Vegas. Last Summer he came up to Michigan and played with Organissimo for a 5 day mini-tour. B3er is working on some of the recordings made that week. His e-mail address is: MarshNV@aol.com I'm sure he'd love to hear from you. Have a great Thanksgiving! I've got to run and do 5 hours of drum lessons...

That saxophone player was Billy Drewes. He almost died. He was just walking around backstage warming up and fell into some stairway that didn't have a railing. Joe Lovano was on the band then too. Drewes did recover and had a steel plate put in his head. He now is a regular with the Vanguard Orch. I saw Larry Farrell two weeks ago at my most recent big band recording session. He played 2nd trombone on the date. I don't remember meeting you but that was a long time ago and I was drinking in those days. (Actually I'm drinking more nowdays). You still got that set of Gretsch?? What size was / is the bass drum? WINGY My name is Randy Marsh.. I'm the drummer in Organissimo and I remember telling you about my father, tenor man Arno Marsh and his off and on stints with Woody's Third Herd.. That Gretsch kit, long gone, was an early 70's kit, 14" x 20" bass, 8" x 12", & 16" x 16" and was glossy black.. Yeah, we were all getting pretty tore down that night...

Danny D, I remember hangin' out with you in the late 70's in GR Mich where you had performed a concert with the Woody Herman Band. You, Larry Farrell, and I hung out after the gig.. I also remember a sax player had tragically fallen into the orchestra pit during rehearsal-soundcheck and was badly injured.. I remember you scanning my record collection and commenting that I must be alright because some of my collection met your approval, and definately remember you trying to talk me into selling you a Gretsch kit I had....

Are you by chance the legendary drummer Danny D'Imperio? I met you in the late 70's in GR Michigan at a Woody Herman concert...

Jazz vocalist and friend Claudia SChmidt after listening to "Clap Yo Hands" was inspired to write lyrics Look around, tell me what do you see It's trouble times all around this city What you do, well it's all up to you Succumb to blue or summon up a new. .view Clap yo hands, you might stir up a dream Dream up a plan, plan up a change for the better. .get better. . It's your call, you might fall, or maybe fly Sit right down, re-examine the scene The world right now isn't very pristine Despair's strong, always creeping around You'd best beware, or you'll be slipping far. .down It's the time to make your move Cause the blues are smooth and coy Clap your hands and raise some joy. CLAP YO HANDS NOW Stand up now, it's the time to begin There'll be a scene when you really dig in The old way doesn't work anymore When they try stopping you, just give em what. .for Clap your hands, you might jolt 'em awake, Wake 'em to see, see that they can Make it better, much better It's your song, sing out strong, it's time to fly Claudia Schmidt PO Box 0563 Traverse City, MI 49685 www.claudiaschmidt.com

I got a few laughs out of some of these Snappy Answers Snappy Answer #1 A flight attendant was stationed at the departure gate to check tickets. As a man approached, she extended her hand for the ticket, and he opened his trench coat and flashed her. Without missing a beat she said, "Sir, I need to see your ticket, not your stub." Snappy Answer #2 A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any bigger?" The stock boy replied, "No ma'am, they're dead." Snappy Answer #3 The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. "I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said. The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could." When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket. Snappy Answer #4 A truck driver was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up that reads "low bridge ahead." Before he knows it the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge. Cars are backed up for miles. Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car and walks around to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, "Got stuck, huh?" The truck driver says, "No sir, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas." Snappy Answer(s) #5 A crowded United Airlines flight was canceled. A single agent was booking a long line of inconvenienced travelers. Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket down on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS." The agent replied, "I'm sorry sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these folks first, and I'm sure we'll be able to work something out." The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?" Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone."May I have your attention please," she began her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come to Gate 14." With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United agent, gritted his teeth and swore. "F***you! "Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to get in line for that, too." Snappy Answer #6 A college teacher reminded her class of tomorrow's final exam. "Now class, I won't tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow." A smart-ass guy in the back of the room raised his hand and asked, "What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?" The entire class stifled their laughter and snickering. When silence was restored, the teacher smiled sympathetically at the student and said, "Well, I guess you'd have to write the exam with your other hand."

P. Diddy finishes NYC Marathon, raises $2 million
randissimo replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
He did and that is great. I still think he's a piece of shit. These fuckers do nothing but half ass raps and videos about how much cash they spend. I honestly don't believe it's healthy for the young and poor to see that shit all the time. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/031029/325/ecgdz.html Maybe the P stands for "Punk" .. And the 2 mill is maybe guilt driven restitution for all the "blatant violence" "drug addiction" and "bad attitude" influence rappers like "Piss- Dawgy" have had on generations of young kids... The biggest rap market seems to be backward ball cap wearin' young white suburban "Ghetto Wannabes" in their expensive and obnoxious "sub woofer shuttle crafts" with the lights under the car...They really get off on upsetting their middle class parents and neighbors with this dumb shit.. And who's making BIG BUCKS off of all of this shit? You guessed it,, Corporate America"... ..."and they rap about how many people they fuck up, all the ho's they sexualize, brutalize, womanize, and victimize, yo, yo, yo"..Go P-diddy go"...... .. -

I just basically have a problem with so called rappers in general. They get way too much media attention, negatively influence too many kids, and make way too much money off of their "cell block banter" and then have the nerve to call themselves musicians! Ok, I admit I sound like an old geezer... I dug rap when it was done creatively by The Last Poets, Gil Scot Heron, and Arrested Development... For me most rap is just obnoxious crap. -
My congrats! B)

Clearwater Jazz Festival
randissimo replied to Dan Gould's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Dan, Thanks again for coming out to the festival and hangin' with us.. To answer your question about Herbie's set, he played only that Steinway grand.. It was a great set and I was especially impressed with Terry Lynne Carrington's performance.. -
I'll never forget going to hear Max Roach's band in Chicago at the Jazz Showcase back in the late 70's.. The most powerful entity onstage that night was Billy Harper! He blew me away!!
