  1. i'm looking for any of the lennie niehaus OJC titles on disc and would be willing to purchase or trade something of equality for them. the titles are: volume 1 - quintets volume 2 - zounds! volume 3 - the octet #2 volume 4 - the quintets + strings volume 5 - sextet kind regards, -e-
  2. dmitry - let's SEE it! -e-
  3. ...and that's the thing, al. listeners, especially ones who haven't been listening forever, have completely different sensibilities about whom they listen to and why. i think i should be as sensitive as i can to that instead of coming out swinging when someone says that ________________ isn't quite their cup of tea. after all, not being able to tolerate much cecil taylor/anthony braxton/archie shepp/sun ra, i can relate all too well. -e-
  4. without a doubt, the eldridge. it's a set that transcends the ages and trends of the genre and will age very well through the years (as will the hodges set, IMHO). regarde, -e-
  5. i feel like admiral james stockdale... <"who am i? what am i doing here? i'm hungry!"> , -e-
  6. wise wize - is slow drag stil available...? yours truly, -e-
  7. man, you got that right! SORELY overdue... , -e-

  9. good GOD...! CORRECTION: the reason is to complain over welding's original reissue liner notes. -e-
  10. CLARIFICATION: the reason is to complain over the original liner notes... -e-
  11. generally speaking, he's a neo-traditionalist who also happens to be a sharp dresser... should photograph well, -e-
  12. modern sounds from the west, as well as cool gabriels, has awful sound. coming soon to a for sale board near you... -e-
  13. material that's supplemented with a small chamber group on some pieces inspired by the city of prague ('praha'), this date is also recommended! -e-
  14. dude - i TOTALLY agree. i can't believe that mosaic parlayed those unnecessarily harsh notes criticizing sheldon. very poor taste. can't say that i'd necessarily be a fan of welding's writing anyhow. talk about institutionalizing jazz... -e-
  15. what if we could marry the beauty and minimalism of the herbie hancock box with the stout industrialism of the complete bill evans on verve box....? hmmmmmmmmmm, -e-
  16. you can run but you can't hide from The Rust. it's gonna get ya! -e-
  17. i certainly hope they do! they put musicians like jamie mccallum and the bad plus to *shame*... cheers! -e-
  18. yes, often it does. the rust can become quite aggressive and spread through the second layer of metal that the magazine which holds the discs is made from and attack the discs directly after it wreaks havoc on the protective paper sleeves. a friend of mine in the northeast claims that a quarter of his box has now been rendered unplayable after a winter in his garage... cavaet emptor, -e-
  19. just a footnote to the gentleman who PM'd me concerning sister sadie from more soul (i accidentally deleted your PM). alas, the imperfection seems to exist on the master as the recent EU rhino reissue that i have still has it (albeit in brief fashion)... -e-
  20. great cutting and pasting from kishino.net... anyhow, i know yoshiko. she's v cool and plays in the tradition of her heroes bill evans and hank jones. it's her writing, however, that i really dig. she pens very pastoral explorations for pockets of improvisation that are so listenable. if you're after hell bent at all costs playing a la jason moran, she ain't it (although she can hold her own; that's just not her game). if you're interested in the proverbial less is more, do check her out. she plays with her own japansese trio and the best of american musicians such as michael brecker, paul motian, and eddie gomez. you are so beautiful is stone cold choice... -e-
  21. for god's sake SOMEONE take that copy of boss horn. it is freaking choice! -e-
  22. i'd almost trade my future moncur for that eclectic guraldi.... -e-
  23. v-e-r-y tricky, indeed... -e-
