  1. i haven't seen GOIN' WEST mentioned anywhere in this tread. albeit, a session very unlike AM I BLUE? but i'm just curious where you guys may come down on this one? i remember growing up and seeing it in some friends collections and thinking "man, that has to be some cheesey piece of work" based on the cover. when i finally received my own copy boy were my ears ever opened... elvin just *sparkles* on this date. ???, -e-
  2. takin' it to the streets and time loves a hero? right the hell on! i didn't know anyone was stil buying those masterpieces! good on ya, dude! -e- ps: check out livin' on the fault line...
  3. yea, is it as loosy-goosy as some people lead me to believe? can you comment on how focused you feel the sides are? i've stayed away from -all- of the jam session series, but the thought of being able to have them all in one place is very tempting. plus it's not in a sardine can like the parker set... -e-
  4. good to know - i've already been bitten. -e-
  5. you are absolutely right. well, some titles simply can't be helped... it seems donald byrd's tryin' to get home is another whose master seems wonky to my ears. on another note, can anyone tell me of a single u.s. RVG title that isn't currently or wasn't available in japan first...? ???, -e-
  6. is this the proper place to ask about the merits of that wayfaring stranger date?
  7. you won't be disappointed. stefano's playing is spot on while the rest of the group (barron/bolto/bonaccorso/riley) does not disappoint. airy + spacious mix courtesey of an all-french engineering/mastering team. , -e-
  8. aw geez, forgive my repetetive redundancy... -e-
  9. lemmie know you that one arrives. i'm a big eddie + venus fan, and this one doesn't disappoint. talk about cleeeeeeeeeean! -e-
  10. thanks tony! based on the the overwhelmingly positive remarks, i'm gonna to start with 'a groovy situation', 'the phantom' (*especially* because i want a better pressing than the select), and 'circles' to round it out. i wasn't aware that water treated the catalog so well. wouldn't it be something if this began happening to other titles we cherish... -e-
  11. greetings - has anyone else seen the interview with rudy van gelder in the september/october tape op magazine (issue #43)? far too much content for me to find just one highlight, but his closing remarks took me aback. it seems he now thinks surround mixing is the Next Great Thing. who woulda thought? -e- ps: if there are enough responses, perhaps i could scan + post the approximately 4 page interview.
  12. speaking of water reissues, has anyone heard this? i'm verrrrrry curious, -e-
  13. i'm glad we can agree to disagree without getting insulting. hey, it could just be that my ears aren't sophisticated enough for this date... :rsly: also, one last divergence from the thread topic: the cover to the forthcoming di battista record. --- -e-
  14. you'd be suprised at how lackluster that vick date is, IMHO (hold your rotten tomatos + bananas)....
  15. my point *exactly*! same ol, same ol... the primary challenge is that EMI licenses the RVG series masters from toshiba and therefore our choices are limited to titles previously isssued in japan, which are the tried and true. :rsmile:
  16. ...and *yes*, i do realize this series in not specifically for previously unavailable titles (before another flame materializes).
  17. Also in January we will ship a hot new bebop/ Bird covers disc from the Italian saxophonist Stefano Battista, featuring Kenny Barron.
  18. ??? there's at least 3 issues of talkin' about already... granted it's a decent session, but let's save that slot for a title that r-e-a-l-l-y needs it. -e-
  19. i have 3 titles from this new 24bit/96khz series: 'happenings' 'maiden voyage' 'a night in tunisia'. being a huge fan and collector of the original TOCJ series, i was curious as to whether the engineers at toshiba could do anything more with 'em. to my ears, they have: extended resolution and soundstage that seem to take the TOCJ sound to the next level. by comparison, the japanese RVG series, or the RVG series in general, i'm not so exceited about. just my two cents, -e-
  20. ps: the one title i've always wished for a nice remaster on is 'matador'... very wasted in it's current state in which all the instruments are mashed together.
  21. kevin - the japanese RVG of leapin' and lopin' is oh-so-choice... makes all other pressings of it obsolete. cheers, -e-
  22. i resisted the temptation to insert any julie london covers...
  23. why the *hell* do artists and designers have to re-invent the wheel seemingly every time out on box sets? we want to keep it very simple and accessible. jewlcases augmented with a nice lavish book inside a cardboard box with a tasteful graphic/photo combination is all it takes to makes us happy and want to buy your product. listen to us - we're your market, -e- ---
  24. one word: never has a box actually kept me from enjoying it the way this packaging has... -e-
  25. by all means, do. i can think of no better place to kick start your second career than: --- -e-
