very impressive... the clip, a rather long one, has elements of secret story that i found so rewarding as well as the spaciousness of offramp and first circle. wow, -e-

could i ask for more of a description of SOUL GROOVE? seems like it should be tasty, but other atlantics from that period are inconsistent to my ears. ???, -e-

just a note that SASSY SWINGS THE TIVOLI is an apex of sarah's without question. run, don't walk.... the only minor flaw to me is its mastering. i've been hoping for a makeover for years. when haven't we heard that? -e-

i'm not sure how many people have this 2-fer reissue, but it is *incredibly* good and highly recommended: andy's style, to me, can be divided into three distinct phases: 1. the work with his sisters both as a stand-alone group and on certain horace silver sides. it's very choral and at times vocalese like. thrilling and new sounding for its time. 2. more funky work including a stint with gary bartz's ntu troop (this freaked me out when i first heard it as it's very different from the first and third phase). what's suprising to me is how well it works. 3. his phoenix a la jimmy-scott reemergence onto the scene in 1991 in which he seems to have completely embraced tradition while stamping so so many songs with his own gorgeous imprint. i'm a fan, -e-

i haven't seen GOIN' WEST mentioned anywhere in this tread. albeit, a session very unlike AM I BLUE? but i'm just curious where you guys may come down on this one? i remember growing up and seeing it in some friends collections and thinking "man, that has to be some cheesey piece of work" based on the cover. when i finally received my own copy boy were my ears ever opened... elvin just *sparkles* on this date. ???, -e-

yea, is it as loosy-goosy as some people lead me to believe? can you comment on how focused you feel the sides are? i've stayed away from -all- of the jam session series, but the thought of being able to have them all in one place is very tempting. plus it's not in a sardine can like the parker set... -e-

you won't be disappointed. stefano's playing is spot on while the rest of the group (barron/bolto/bonaccorso/riley) does not disappoint. airy + spacious mix courtesey of an all-french engineering/mastering team. , -e-

thanks tony! based on the the overwhelmingly positive remarks, i'm gonna to start with 'a groovy situation', 'the phantom' (*especially* because i want a better pressing than the select), and 'circles' to round it out. i wasn't aware that water treated the catalog so well. wouldn't it be something if this began happening to other titles we cherish... -e-

greetings - has anyone else seen the interview with rudy van gelder in the september/october tape op magazine (issue #43)? far too much content for me to find just one highlight, but his closing remarks took me aback. it seems he now thinks surround mixing is the Next Great Thing. who woulda thought? -e- ps: if there are enough responses, perhaps i could scan + post the approximately 4 page interview.

you'd be suprised at how lackluster that vick date is, IMHO (hold your rotten tomatos + bananas)....

my point *exactly*! same ol, same ol... the primary challenge is that EMI licenses the RVG series masters from toshiba and therefore our choices are limited to titles previously isssued in japan, which are the tried and true. :rsmile:

...and *yes*, i do realize this series in not specifically for previously unavailable titles (before another flame materializes).
