  1. FWIW, i wouldn't bother with the nicola conte. i found it to be very unfocused and unsatisfying. a huge comedown, for me, after jet sounds revisited... -e-
  2. chuck, was your omission intentional or.... ?, -e-
  3. you guys have quincy's very choice birth of a band date (featuring...)? mercy! -3-
  4. your second chance comes around beginning december 15... -e-
  5. very, very large. i'm just back from europe (france/germany/austria/spain) and these titles are available everywhere at prices ranging from 4 - 7 euros. owning the box, i was curious if broken wing and other regarded titles from the first 75 were still available. seems as if they were... -e-
  6. on the serious tip, i think if you enjoyed the map of the world soundtrack (the film quickly vanished), that you may find something in the way up. remember, that was a 6 minute clip from a 60+ minute composition... -e-
  7. may we simply injur you? -e-
  8. oh man do you have that right... i used to live in tokyo and often spent a full day mining the used shops looking for said elusive title. many times i thought i'd found it. nyet. it only served to up the ante significantly. :rsmile: -e-
  9. no kidding, that 'golden eight' record is *very* tasty. i'm not necessarily known to enjoy ever big band record i hear, but that one is a swinging exception. i love it! the other 3 available on MPS ('all smiles', 'more smiles', and 'fellini 712') at the moment are pretty decent, too! regards, -e-
  10. i picked up 2 tasty titles to augment the box set recently: blossom dearie - the pianist / les blue stars (#94) max roach - parsian sketches (96) both are readily available and are highly recommended! -e-
  11. JimR, these 3 are kick-ass records! all 3... the charlap has, IMHO, been very underrated. look for a new new york trio record on venus next month! cheers + a very merry christmas, -e-
  12. as does AT, baby! :rsmile: , -e-
  13. i think i spent upwards of $800.00 one month this year. that's an jazzaholics anonymous moment for me... -e-
  14. hey, i was thinking... what about this date: ???, -e-
  15. sweeping, lush, cinematic-like unabashed beauty. as the sample began, the kalimba sounding percsussion which opens the sample is used. a similar sound is contained in one of my very favorite metheny compositions in this vein: cathedral in a suitcase, which i never tire of. additionally, the way up is a one-piece suite, which is something that mentheny was approaching with secret story. when i saw the group twice on that tour they preformed the recording in its entirety. bluerin mentioned speaking of now, which has its moments, but definitely isn't a great PMG record in my book. additionally, the mastering sounds very off to me. my friends at WB (now defunct), the issuing label, mentioned something going awry with its production. ? from the appearance of his site and the packaging, i think nonesuch will do an unparalleled job with metheny. one thing's for sure, i'm certainly looking forward to their reissuing the geffen catalog. *those* are the masterpieces in need, just as WB did with lyle mays titles... but is that clip great or what? -e-
  16. thank you booker! the presence of patton puts it over the top for me. although i loathe collectables reissues, this one i'll spring for. regards, -e-
  17. very impressive... the clip, a rather long one, has elements of secret story that i found so rewarding as well as the spaciousness of offramp and first circle. wow, -e-
  18. not everybody at once... -e-
  19. is it more cohesive or more loose and blowing? personnel? thanks in advance! -e-
  20. could i ask for more of a description of SOUL GROOVE? seems like it should be tasty, but other atlantics from that period are inconsistent to my ears. ???, -e-
  21. not quite OOP, but not easy to find either... all the mroe reason for scooping it up! -e-
  22. just a note that SASSY SWINGS THE TIVOLI is an apex of sarah's without question. run, don't walk.... the only minor flaw to me is its mastering. i've been hoping for a makeover for years. when haven't we heard that? -e-
  23. i'm not sure how many people have this 2-fer reissue, but it is *incredibly* good and highly recommended: andy's style, to me, can be divided into three distinct phases: 1. the work with his sisters both as a stand-alone group and on certain horace silver sides. it's very choral and at times vocalese like. thrilling and new sounding for its time. 2. more funky work including a stint with gary bartz's ntu troop (this freaked me out when i first heard it as it's very different from the first and third phase). what's suprising to me is how well it works. 3. his phoenix a la jimmy-scott reemergence onto the scene in 1991 in which he seems to have completely embraced tradition while stamping so so many songs with his own gorgeous imprint. i'm a fan, -e-
  24. d'oh! i was so thinking of STREET OF DREAMS.... (one of my personal favs) thanks, al! -e-
