  1. <--- speaking into collar-microphone... "Can we get a bouncer over here, there's a guy named Ron S who clearly isn't on the guest list..." (Hey, I snuck in with you.)
  2. They put their pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us. You forgot Chuck Nessa, not to add to your anxiety or anything. Actually, I didn't forget Chuck--his name just didn't happen to be visible on the screen when I had my little epiphany.
  3. I know this one's been enthusiastically recommended before on this Board, but DAMN! DOUBLE DAMN! Now I'm gonna have to scarf up a copy of "Conflict".
  4. All I know is that I'm reading posts by Allen Lowe and Larry Kart, and I look at the bottom of the page and see next to my own name that Scott Yanow and Chris Albertson are also reading this thread, and I think to myself, "how the hell did I get into this club???"
  5. Really! And I'm sure most of those Penn students have absolutely no idea what incredible music is being played regularly on and right next to their campus. ( I can say that having been one decades ago. )
  6. I'm planning to catch you at the Tritone on October 9th. And who knows? I may have 3 itinerant Michigan musicians with me.
  7. I've only gotten through a small portion of my Concord Sale haul, but so far this one really stands out for me: Great alto playing by McPherson, the sidemen gel nicely (Cedar Walton, Pat Martino, Peck Morrison, Lenny McBrowne), and the presence of a young Pat Martino is a real bonus.
  8. And in the meantime, you could always just listen to these:
  9. Jim, does this mean you're gonna fire up TWO Leslies in my house?
  10. I'm betting that the "6" at the beginning of Brad's number (6907) is actually a "0". The stellar penmanship of the Mosaic shipping department strikes again.
  11. Sorry, can't help you there. I did a search of Kenny Dorham and found "The Arrival of Kenny Dorham," but there's no indication of whether it's the 20-bit gold version you have. Perhaps brownie, who I think knows quite a bit about Fresh Sound, will check in here and be able to help.
  12. Fresh Sound web site
  13. Ahem . . . . there is someone else in your house, is there not? Strangely, not when either package arrived... MG Aaaah, so she's intercepting them at the post office.
  14. Ahem . . . . there is someone else in your house, is there not?
  15. No doubt. Still, better safe than sorry given Scott and jmjk's query re our new, as-of-yet-unblemished Greg M.
  16. Fellas, I think this is a different Greg M.
  17. Yes - but it was in the 10% off sale and they ran out before the end of August. So I reckon everything was done in a hurry when they got a new supply. MG Are you sure that in your frenzied excitement to open the box immediately and start playing the music that very instant, you didn't perhaps throw away the invoice? I'm sure that if you email them, they'll send you another copy of the invoice with the number, and your set will finally be complete! (How could you even begin to think about listening to the music without knowing the set number? )
  18. Well, it DOES have a number--it's on the invoice that came with it. You just have to write it in the booklet yourself.
  19. I saw him at a show with Shirley Scott on a Sunday afternoon back in the late 80's/very early 90's at the Ethical Society in Philly. The show was a disappointment (Scott, on piano that show, was uninspired, and some very poor horn players sat in the second set), but I got to talk to Mickey between sets, and he was delightful. John, we should get Phillyissimo together to see him at Ortlieb's sometime (when we're not attending one of the many upcoming organissimo gigs ).
  20. Elvin Jones, discs 5-8 TM, the first four discs were very interesting, and I'm glad I have them, but I'm not sure I'll play them very often. Right now, I'm enjoying the session with Jan Hammer and Chick Corea on disc 5. Throughout this set, of course, Elvin is a MONSTER. Actually--and don't take this the wrong way--I'm a bit surprised that a Wynton fan would be such a big fan of this set.
  21. Whenever I order one of the big boxes, I always insist that they have Michael Cuscuna personally number the booklet. He's been so accomodating that he's even gone as far as to vary his handwriting in each set I've gotten.
  22. Yes. He plays at Ortlieb's several times every month. In addition to Jazzmatazz, this site also provides a schedule of upcoming events.
  23. Swell, here's mine: That's currently available on a twofer.
  24. Both of my orders (7/24 and 7/29) took about a month to ship.
