I've only gotten through a small portion of my Concord Sale haul, but so far this one really stands out for me: Great alto playing by McPherson, the sidemen gel nicely (Cedar Walton, Pat Martino, Peck Morrison, Lenny McBrowne), and the presence of a young Pat Martino is a real bonus.

Ellington 1936-1940 Variety/Vocalion/OKeh Small Group Sessions
Ron S replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
And in the meantime, you could always just listen to these: -
Jim, does this mean you're gonna fire up TWO Leslies in my house?
-
I'm betting that the "6" at the beginning of Brad's number (6907) is actually a "0". The stellar penmanship of the Mosaic shipping department strikes again.

Sorry, can't help you there. I did a search of Kenny Dorham and found "The Arrival of Kenny Dorham," but there's no indication of whether it's the 20-bit gold version you have. Perhaps brownie, who I think knows quite a bit about Fresh Sound, will check in here and be able to help.

Ahem . . . . there is someone else in your house, is there not? Strangely, not when either package arrived... MG Aaaah, so she's intercepting them at the post office.

No doubt. Still, better safe than sorry given Scott and jmjk's query re our new, as-of-yet-unblemished Greg M.
-
Fellas, I think this is a different Greg M.
-
Yes - but it was in the 10% off sale and they ran out before the end of August. So I reckon everything was done in a hurry when they got a new supply. MG Are you sure that in your frenzied excitement to open the box immediately and start playing the music that very instant, you didn't perhaps throw away the invoice? I'm sure that if you email them, they'll send you another copy of the invoice with the number, and your set will finally be complete! (How could you even begin to think about listening to the music without knowing the set number? )
-
Well, it DOES have a number--it's on the invoice that came with it. You just have to write it in the booklet yourself.

I saw him at a show with Shirley Scott on a Sunday afternoon back in the late 80's/very early 90's at the Ethical Society in Philly. The show was a disappointment (Scott, on piano that show, was uninspired, and some very poor horn players sat in the second set), but I got to talk to Mickey between sets, and he was delightful. John, we should get Phillyissimo together to see him at Ortlieb's sometime (when we're not attending one of the many upcoming organissimo gigs ).

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Ron S replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Elvin Jones, discs 5-8 TM, the first four discs were very interesting, and I'm glad I have them, but I'm not sure I'll play them very often. Right now, I'm enjoying the session with Jan Hammer and Chick Corea on disc 5. Throughout this set, of course, Elvin is a MONSTER. Actually--and don't take this the wrong way--I'm a bit surprised that a Wynton fan would be such a big fan of this set. -

Whenever I order one of the big boxes, I always insist that they have Michael Cuscuna personally number the booklet. He's been so accomodating that he's even gone as far as to vary his handwriting in each set I've gotten.
-
Yes. He plays at Ortlieb's several times every month. In addition to Jazzmatazz, this site also provides a schedule of upcoming events.
-
Swell, here's mine: That's currently available on a twofer.
-
Both of my orders (7/24 and 7/29) took about a month to ship.
-
Flurin, only "Turn Out the Stars" and the Verve box appear to be OOP. "Last Waltz", "Consecration", and "Secret Sessions" are still in print. I was going to tell you about the sale price on the Concord site (although I don't think they ship overseas), but Matthew beat me to it. I think it is also reasonably safe to say that the Riverside box is going as well. Maybe the Fantasy too? I wouldn't be too confident about the others being reprinted but maybe I'm just a pessimist. That's right--the Riverside box is now OOP, also.

organissimo should be great, but who's that other band? -
I'm posting this in a couple of threads, since several similar Jazzmatazz threads seem to have arisen in different forums: UPDATE: I just talked to Alan Lankin, and he said that he's been extremely busy and hasn't been able to update the upcoming releases portion of the Jazzmatazz site. He has been able to keep the Philly Jazz section current, for which those of us in Philly are extremely grateful (NOTE TO JIM: Alan is soon going to add all 4 organissimo gigs ). Alan said that he hopes to get back to updating the CD-release portion of the Jazzmatazz site, but doesn't know when that will be. He also hopes to stop by the Board when he gets a chance and say hello.

So at what point is it time to get Action Jackson on the case? I'd give it a good 4 weeks, unless you see reports here of later orders than yours being shipped.
