  1. Well, it DOES have a number--it's on the invoice that came with it. You just have to write it in the booklet yourself.
  2. I saw him at a show with Shirley Scott on a Sunday afternoon back in the late 80's/very early 90's at the Ethical Society in Philly. The show was a disappointment (Scott, on piano that show, was uninspired, and some very poor horn players sat in the second set), but I got to talk to Mickey between sets, and he was delightful. John, we should get Phillyissimo together to see him at Ortlieb's sometime (when we're not attending one of the many upcoming organissimo gigs ).
  3. Elvin Jones, discs 5-8 TM, the first four discs were very interesting, and I'm glad I have them, but I'm not sure I'll play them very often. Right now, I'm enjoying the session with Jan Hammer and Chick Corea on disc 5. Throughout this set, of course, Elvin is a MONSTER. Actually--and don't take this the wrong way--I'm a bit surprised that a Wynton fan would be such a big fan of this set.
  4. Whenever I order one of the big boxes, I always insist that they have Michael Cuscuna personally number the booklet. He's been so accomodating that he's even gone as far as to vary his handwriting in each set I've gotten.
  5. Yes. He plays at Ortlieb's several times every month. In addition to Jazzmatazz, this site also provides a schedule of upcoming events.
  6. Swell, here's mine: That's currently available on a twofer.
  7. Both of my orders (7/24 and 7/29) took about a month to ship.
  8. Flurin, only "Turn Out the Stars" and the Verve box appear to be OOP. "Last Waltz", "Consecration", and "Secret Sessions" are still in print. I was going to tell you about the sale price on the Concord site (although I don't think they ship overseas), but Matthew beat me to it. I think it is also reasonably safe to say that the Riverside box is going as well. Maybe the Fantasy too? I wouldn't be too confident about the others being reprinted but maybe I'm just a pessimist. That's right--the Riverside box is now OOP, also.
  9. Mine's due to be delivered any minute.
  10. organissimo should be great, but who's that other band?
  11. I'm posting this in a couple of threads, since several similar Jazzmatazz threads seem to have arisen in different forums: UPDATE: I just talked to Alan Lankin, and he said that he's been extremely busy and hasn't been able to update the upcoming releases portion of the Jazzmatazz site. He has been able to keep the Philly Jazz section current, for which those of us in Philly are extremely grateful (NOTE TO JIM: Alan is soon going to add all 4 organissimo gigs ). Alan said that he hopes to get back to updating the CD-release portion of the Jazzmatazz site, but doesn't know when that will be. He also hopes to stop by the Board when he gets a chance and say hello.

  13. So at what point is it time to get Action Jackson on the case? I'd give it a good 4 weeks, unless you see reports here of later orders than yours being shipped.
  14. Well if you'd shown us her face, we might have recognized her:
  15. Aaaaah, the Diplomatic Solution.
  16. Nothing is beyond the reach of the Great and Powerful Jackson. If you call him and bitch about the inequity of the situation, he may be able to call the warehouse and get some results.
  17. Or else tell them that this year we're giving them the gift of music, i.e., that we're going to let them listen to our new Concord CDs.
  18. A while back, they also sent me a Wolf Bierman CD by mistake. I wonder if they're trying develop more Wolf Bierman fans.
  19. When i was in Belgium a month ago I took the train to Koln just to see the cathedral drop in at 2001. And you didn't offer to pick up a bunch of stuff for the rest of us???
  20. Of course, I prefer to just send Erik to Germany to pick up mine.
  21. Hank Mobley, "Dippin'" (RVG)
  22. It may not be 2001's service that's the problem, but rather the shipping companies/postal services. As you point out, their customer service is always very responsive.
  23. Call Jackson--he'll make it right.
  24. IIRC, shipping to the US is 22 Euros for any order up to 2.5 kilograms (about 5.5 pounds), and 32 Euros for any order over 2.5 kilos. At the current exchange rate, that works out to about $28 for up to 5.5 pounds, and about $40.75 for over 5.5 pounds. EDIT: It really only makes economic sense to order from them when they're carrying box sets at terrific prices (e.g., I recently got the Mingus Debut box from them for 30 Euros, or about $38, along with some smaller box sets).
