You know, if you're talking about the earlier Blanton-Webster box, that box has been replaced by BMG with this one: with significantly improved sound and more tracks. And it's reasonably priced (e.g., several Amazon.UK Marketplace merchants have it for about 14 pounds).
  2. Bennie Green Select--all 3 discs

You should pick up the Conn (lots more music) before it goes OOP.

I really dig this 2-disc Conn (still in print) with The 3 Sounds:
  5. I just voted for the null-set option before I even bothered to read the damn thread. Guess that makes me a Super Nudnik.
  6. Freddie Slack Select--all 3 discs
  7. Nothing for sale on the site. If you go to the sales section it refers you to Amazon while they move their warehouse. Guess everything is going to LA. I have to wonder, will the estimable Action Jackson also be moving to LA? Seems questionable, but let's hope so... I bet Mr Jackson was in LA the whole time. Actually, Beverly Hills. He's a Concord Man through and through (either that or a Hillbilly).
  8. October (in transit): Lee Morgan, "Tom Cat" (Blue Note) November: Sonny Rollins, "The Bridge" (Bluebird)
  9. FWIW, BMG currently has the Classic Quartet Complete Impulse Studio Recordings box set (8 CDs) for $36.39 with free shipping, here.
  10. Looks like the Summer Blowout Sale is now officially over. Hopefully, they're busy putting together the Winter Blowout Sale.
  11. Another enthusiastic for this set--one of my favorites.
  12. Agree on both. For live Wes, you should also get "Full House". Right up there with Paris (which I've been pushing here), and also has Johnny Griffin.
  13. Well, you spent $71.82 for 9 CDs, when you could have picked up 12 CDs for $71.76, or 20 CDs for $79.60, or 30 CDs for $89.40. But leaving your financial choice aside , you picked a very nice selection. Actually Ron, when it was all said and done the total including shipping came to $62.32. Believe me, I would have loved to have bought 20 or even better 30. The problem would be explaining it to the wife when she saw me hauling in the loot. Hmmmmmm . . . that doesn't seem to add up, if 9 or fewer CDs are $7.98 each. But I certainly understand the wife situation. BOY, do I understand!

  15. Speaker cable can be a tough nut because speakers, cables, and amps sometimes interact in unpredictable ways. Shooting from the hip, though, I recommend Kimber 4TC. It's a true audiophile cable ($6-$7 foot?) but it's not highly capacitive and reacts fairly neutrally with a wide range of speakers and amps. Not the ultimate in transparency but you'd probably have to spend more to do audibly better. And if you were going to spend more, you need very good and specific advice with regard to interactivity. Audio Advisor carries these--more than twice as much as the AudioQuest Type 4. Audio Advisor has pretty good telephone customer service--you should give them a call and get their input.
  16. Now see, that's what I'm talking about, learning something new. I never knew that kazoos had reeds. Puts everything in a new perspective! Chuck must be talking about the high-end models used by the pros, unlike those tissue paper toys we had as kids. Compare and contrast:
  17. For speaker cables, you may want to try Audio Advisor. They're in Grand Rapids, MI--home of Randy Marsh, so you know they've GOTTA be good--and are one of the, if not THE, biggest internet retailers of high-end audio equipment and accessories. I've ordered several things from them over the years, and have always had good luck. In fact, I bought a pair of their AudioQuest Type 4 Speaker Cables with "No Frills" Packaging (they terminate them to your specs at the store), and they seem to be an excellent value.
  18. Thanks for posting about this! Just placed some individual orders for some Selects I've been meaning to pick up. At $34.95 with free shipping, this deal is really hard to pass up.
  19. Indeed, Fantasy's late-80's/early-90's mastering is generally pretty hard to beat. Not that it hasn't been done, but the sound of Fantasy CDs from that era is definitely not inferior, and shouldn't be condemned out-of-hand, IMHO.
  20. We thought he was with you.
  21. ...and I'm just the man for the job! . . . a 'bone-head.
  22. That's funny--when you guys are at our house, we don't eat.
