Next up for me, after yesterday's Mingus-induced major reshuffling:

I had the Mingus in my queue for shipment towards the end of this month. I happened to check my queue yesterday and saw a note at the top that this selection would no longer be available when it was scheduled to ship from my queue, and that I better buy it immediately if I wanted it. I did, and I also threw a few other queue'd items into the cart that I wanted to be sure I didn't miss. Now I'll have to see if the Mingus actually ships.

J&R seems to be having some sort of Blue Note/Capitol sale right now for the same price. That's AllDirect.com's price all the time, and you get free shipping on any order over $99 (good excuse to buy more CDs ).

At least we can still get the newer RVG's at AllDirect.com for $7.99 each. Not as good as yourmusic.com, but better than most.

Yeah--Philly. Actually, I just checked the Philly Jazz section of Alan's Jazzmataz site, and saw that Bobby Watson is going to be playing with the Jimmy Bruno trio at Chris' Jazz Cafe on Friday and Saturday nights of that weekend. That should be a nice show, and it's a shorter trip.

. . . and Philly Jazz fans. Just to expand a bit on a couple of things Alan and Chalupa said: 1. I was with Alan when he mentioned Chuck Nessa to Von (we stood in a LONG line of fans waiting for Von's autograph). Von truly lit up when Alan mentioned Chuck's name and, in addition to saying that Chuck's a great guy, said something to the effect that Chuck had given him his start, that we should be sure to tell Chuck he said hello, and that we should tell Chuck that he should come visit Von and that "he knows where I live!" It was obvious that Von has very warm feelings for Chuck. 2. The crowd was not only relatively large (especially compared to the low expectations of a certain moderator of this Board ), but also gave Von a warm and enthusiastic response. It's amazing that this was the first time Von had ever performed in Philly. Hopefully with the enthusiastic reception he received, he'll come back. I know of at least 3 people in the audience (and I'm sure many others) who would love to see him again. It was a great show, and those of you who get to see Von regularly in Chicago are very lucky. It was also great to meet Chalupa and to see Alan again! (Thanks again for the ride, Alan. )

Alan and I are riding down there together, and I've been trying to reach Chalupa, so maybe we'll divide up the audience among the 3 of us and get you an exact count.

Just bought my ticket. Based on which seats are still available, it looks like this concert is already at least half sold (at least 300-350 tickets sold).

He obviously gave this interview before he came out--not even one reference to Judy Garland.

It looks like I'm going to the Von Freeman concert tonight by myself. Anyone else who's going who'd like to meet me there or even share a ride (Alan?), PM me.
