An album from 1960 from the popular Dominican bandleader Billo Frómeta who was a big hit for years in Venezuela. Being against the Dominican dictator Trujillo, he and his family left for Venezuela while he was in his early 20s. The name change to Billo's Caracas Boys was a kind of an intentional insult towards those who vowed to not let him into the Republic again because of his political views. A full musical life occasionally tainted by scandal (bigamy, hiring musicians outside of the union, conflicts with local musicians to the point where he had to travel to Cuba to perform while being ostracized by Caracas musicians ...), while rehearsing a self-tribute concert that was to take place the next day - on stage, and just finishing "A Cuban in Caracas," - he had a stroke and fell over during the audience applause.

Just back from "a three hour tour" for shot #2. I'm already in my pj's waiting for the effects to kick in. Mentioned to the woman who gave me the shot that it's a double-edge sword kinda thing and she told me that I could always just take something like Ibuprofen, etc. That comment surprised me coming from her because that's exactly what you don't want to do - about a week before and after. You gotta do the homework these days for situations where others haven't.

Congress-Woman Malinda Jackson Parker - The Liberian Landmark Joy Imagine Wesley Willis meets Nina Simone. An extension of her EP from the early 70s called "Tubman Goodtype Songs Of Liberia." Even some of those tunes were derived from a late 60s record which featured one of her favorite subjects: bloodsucking insects. This album is named after the label that 60s side was on. A "special" tune of hers - part of a series - is called "Cousin Mosquito No. 2" where she begins talking about how great "Radaminov" was - soon playing Rachmaninov's - Prelude in C Sharp Minor while singing about how awful the mosquito is: "Mosquito is no friend to man" ... "Mosquito has the stink of death" ... The album is filled with all kinds of grandmotherly advice for the inhabitants of Liberia. Maybe it's time for us to listen too?

So tomorrow, we have an hour drive to get vax'd a second time (🏴󠁵󠁳󠁭󠁡󠁿 "Team Moderna" 🏴󠁵󠁳󠁭󠁡󠁿) - followed by an hour wait in line - followed by an hour drive back home, so I'm loading up some discs (three of which are below) and getting ready to feel miserable later that night (what fun!). Still, it's the best choice - and I can overindulge in 7+ hours of Firesign Theatre videos this weekend.
