  1. I guess Kamasi Washington jumped right from Gerald Wilson's band right into some astral jazz - at least, that's what it seemed like because of all of the young people talking about their new discoveries when it came to the mixtures. There's more leaning toward afrofuturism these days and I kind of find much of all of that more interesting than young guys still trying to bop their way forward. A couple years back when I did 2 Mixcloud mixes that totaled about 8 hours of mostly the free jazz that I grew up enjoying, I started getting comments on their "spiritual jazz" qualities, but other than the time that most of it comes from that included influences of Nation of Islam, Egyptology and probably a little bit of Eastern philosophy, I was a little surprised that the phrase still kept getting used. Isn't there a series of "Spiritual Jazz" that's up to number 13 or 14 by now? If anyone cares: Random Radio 033: No Energy Crisis (Part 1) / Random Radio 038: No Energy Crisis (Part 2)
  2. Yeah, it was kind of a Xmas present to myself last year. There are three others of his I've gotten since:
  3. The moon photographed over 28 days at the same place and at the same time.
  4. Occasionally heard of this Raspberry Pi and it's piqued my interest - especially after I lost the ability to do the rodcast thru Nicecast a while back. ... but, for now, I just send music thru Sonos speakers located throughout the house and just think about sending stuff beyond those confines.
  5. Yeah, boy. Lots of sampling here: Steve Miller, György Ligeti (with a nod to Stockhausen's Hymnen: Region IV breathing segment - or is it "Dave Bowman" from 2001: A Space Odyssey"), The Dubliners, Pink Floyd, ... I think it may work better as a suite of tunes that segue rather than individual ones - even with the Dixieland tracks folded in(!) Maybe Zweistein could be a close comparison or even Marks & Lebzelter, but there was more of this kind of thing during those times than people want to admit to.
  6. Well, actually, that's not true. Yes, he did drugs for a limited time, but to call him a heroin junkie is waaaay off the mark. He had more of a bad time as a child with severe spinal meningitis than anything drug related. He still feels, naively, that kids should be informed about drugs and that the "government" should stay out of the business of regulation, but that's another issue.
  7. What language is this?

  9. Yeah, since we're exploring the great Esteban Jordan, I thought I'd throw in these two versions of Ran Kan Kan. First is the Hacienda Records studio version followed by a fun live one from Austin City Limits. Got to experience him at least three times and one part of my mind always wanted to cRaZy dance while another part made me stand slack-jawed.
  10. 😂 Don’t you recognize the now plump and flabby whackjob, John(ny) “Rotten” Lydon?
  11. I have a twenty year old Prius that came with a 6-disc built-in changer, so that’s my method, but when I read stories like this, I wonder if I really ever want to get anything newer - especially something that would enable me to attach an iPod Touch.
  12. Billy Taylor owned part of WSOK as well.
  13. Maybe the Zorn "Emergency" group?
