  1. Back in '67, when Braxton had his first solo concert, he originally was going to play for an hour off the top of his head, but realized after 10 minutes that he had started repeating himself and was kind of running out of ideas. I think it was then that he decided that maybe it was a good idea to begin having some guiding principles when it comes to composition paired with improvisation. I think that this is why we have these various overall structural systems of his that act like brackets around improv elements - things like "Echo Echo..." and the "Ghost Trance" events that work like springboards for group workings. What makes them inherently "Braxton" are how much of each interactive element exists and their methods of interweaving as well as the choice of performers that are really able to intermingle all of these elements (and just know what's expected in the larger sense).
  2. Now listening to a shuffle of 1735 Bandcamp tunes on a new Sonos speaker. NP: Guy Buttery - Fox Hill Lane
  3. Reliving my childhood in 8 CDs...
  4. I'll check that out too! I started collecting the Buffalo Bop stuff on vinyl (and Bison Bop) in the mid-80s until I ended up with all of them, so I've been lovin' their label for a good while now. Thanks again!
  5. OK, so those Stompin titles are really $36 per vinyl and the CDs are usually $28 each? OK, I see your OP - and you're saying that it's supposed to show $7 ... Well, I'm signed in, so maybe they're reduced at checkout 'cause it isn't showing anything but $14 right now. Yeah, so at checkout on some of the Stompin' titles they show a discount. Ok, great! Thanks for the heads-up!
  6. I don't see this mentioned on their website. I could be looking in the wrong place. Could this be just for people on their mailing list?
  7. "Out to Lunchbox"
  8. Will forever be grateful for his label of astounding interpretations of really great works: CP². There's about 2 dozen releases and every one is an absolute gem. The 3-LP set below changed my life and I remember loaning it out to anyone that I thought needed to have their life changed as well. Zukofsky and Cage got along very well. Zukofsky helped him realize what could be done with the violin - even tho Zukofsky claimed that the first Freeman Etudes that Cage had composed for him were "unplayable." Irvine Arditti, afterwards showed that they were indeed playable (saw him do this in concert - had to pick my jaw up off of the floor).
  9. Oh, yes! Not very typical, but a real good one. A bit of a sentimental place for this one too.
  10. I'd recommend these two as a start. (You already have "Belonging"?) Of course, there's so much more that's very good to excellent, but these are a start.
  11. and newly released!
