My Sony MZ-R70 has been faithful to me for many years now, but it's not a deck. The stack of MDs that need to be transferred are always staring back at me thru different coloured eyes! R~~ --- Now playing: Kenneth Terroade - Blessing

Yup, that's one of the clips referenced in the Wikipedia article. It can't really be impressive to me if it's not my "cup of tea" methinks.

Thanks for the reminder - yes! I seem to recall this as well...

Well, I can't recommend any - or really think of any - 'cause if you check the links at the bottom of the Wikipedia article, it's usually used for sucky music. I think many performers like to use it to imitate other instruments (why does Brecker follow up Mike Stern's indulgent solo with a solo that imitates a guitar? ), so I'm not one to buy such CDs. I understand that it's used for the music of popular TV shows, but I watch only a few hours a month, so I don't know these shows. I think it has advantages for a studio musician in that you can get these different "instruments" while carrying something rather small around to the sessions.

My understanding is that it was a trumpet player named Neil(?) Steiner (hence the name) that came up with the idea in the 70's and later joined up with Akai in the late 80's for mass marketing it. I have to assume that Akai took over the production and probably used Steiner's name only for the first batch.

I have one and bring it out on occasion to "color" something I'm working on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EWI The picture that they show is one of the more modern versions. Strange that the Steiner model isn't mentioned, 'cause that's the model that, I believe, Marshall is using (as is the one I own).

Been listening all day. Trying to tape the interviews. Props to the guy who usually does the classical programming. He's admitted to not being as familiar with Max's work as most of the rest of the crew, but he's being a real trooper about presentation of the tunes. Sad but enjoyable broadcast. -

The great Lee Hazlewood has died
rostasi replied to rostasi's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yup, he'd been sick for a while. After "Fresh Air" interviewed him and the new CD was released (of which he knew it would be his last), I featured about a dozen of his recordings on a rodcast and had some nice comments from some folks thru the Last.FM site. It was nice to have a "sit 'n' listen" session and absorb how his style changed throughout the years. An original with a fine flair for lyrics - quirks and all - and a captivatingly deep voice - a kind of country music parallel to Kevin Ayers. -
not much news info yet, but there is a Swedish obit and a mention here: http://lavachequilit.typepad.com/la_vache_...8/lee-died.html Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Hazlewood

I don't think that it's really Jarrett saying those words in that video. It was just the "Creator" speaking thru him.

Different song and lousy video.

Quote from 2001: "Only EC card or cash - no VISA, no American Express, no nothing"

Yup, I saw those too.... Can you tell me why new ECMs are so expensive there? Just curious...
-
Nice haul. What city are you in?This was at the little Köln shop. I've got some discs in my Amazon cart that I saw at "2001" for quite a bit less, so I may be springin' for those as well. God, what a habit...

I stopped by Zweitausendeins this afternoon. The last item was free 'cause the fellow showed me that there were some scuffs on it and didn't feel right for selling it at €5! Well, you know, it was an easy mistake. On the LP it does say "Sun Ra- Crumar Mainman p, kyb", so, you know, whoever did it was just following the liners. Seen it before - I think on at least one of the Evidences? edit: actually "he's" playing drums on The Singles - fer real!
-
Please clarify. Is Sun Ra backwards, is the instrument backwards or does he invert all notes? Maybe he did a Zawinul trick with the reverse keyboard? I'll have to go back to that DVD and take a look. It actually says "Mainman" on the keyboard? 'cause Mario and Piero Crucianelli (sp?) started Elka with the "Multiman" in '77 and came up with 13 more - none of which were called "Mainman" if I'm correct. I could be totally wrong on this, but I'll take a look online to see if I can find a listing of some sort.
