johnny mercer + cohn/newman/green selects
J.A.W. replied to etherbored's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
If you mean the Newport 1958 Single, I got that one a while ago. -
Let me know which ones you're selling if you win, Al

Best of luck, Garth! Get better soon!

The $200 is a "handling fee", a surcharge on top of the actual overseas shipping cost.

Same questions here...

I don't believe eBay will cancel this auction. I get the feeling collecting large fees is more important to them than a consistent policy...
-
If you alert eBay now they might cancel the auction.

Labels like Disconforme, Definitive and Lone Hill Jazz. They are based in Andorra and they take other label's masterings and use them for their own releases. There are a few labels like that in the U.K. too (JSP, Proper).

Don't forget the sellers' surcharges! No, I haven't forgotten. I certainly do not think that levying such surcharges is the best way to do business (especially for a high priced item such as this), but, then again, the seller could have easily limited the acceptable payment methods to money order and cashier's check only. I could be mistaken, but I believe that PayPal affords purchasers greater protection (even when effecting a money transfer from a PayPal balance) than could be obtained by sending a money order. We shall see what happens, but auctions such as this one often seem to end at a winning bid price well below fair market value. Of course, if this auction attracts the interest of two bidders with deep pockets (and who cannot do math very well), then all bets are off! Unless the auction is cancelled by eBay because of the surcharges... Right! I have no idea what eBay's policies are in this regard. Some time ago I was watching a few auctions where the sellers explicitly stated in their descriptions they would charge the PayPal fee to the buyers; eBay cancelled the auctions.

If I'm not mistaken surcharges like that are against eBay rules.

Bary01 has a different eBay handle.

Doh! If I was thinking I would have done that. Thanks Hans! Hiroshi told me he wasn't sure the box was ever released as a 20-bit K2 remastered set. Sorry I couldn't help.

I still haven't received or heard anything from Tjobbe. Does anyone know what's going on? I do hope he is OK.

Looking for Braxton's Santa Cruz 2003

Be careful, asking for copies is not allowed here. -
I'm not so sure about the current value of the big Hill Mosaic box on the collector's market. Prices have fallen lately, and the last one went on eBay for under $180... Yes, and I don't think it is worth $180 for the sound quality improvement in Point of Departure, unless you got that much dough that has fallen behind every couch and seat cushion in your house without you even noticing. Just my opinion. Again, this assumes that sound quality is the ONLY deciding factor. That's not what I meant - I was trying to say that on the collector's market (like eBay) the big box was worth much more than what it appears to be now. As for the sound quality: different ears, different systems, different listening rooms, different mastering methods etc., resulting in very different opinions. I also got offensive reactions in the past, so I'd rather stay out of that one.

I've asked Hiroshi Tanno. As soon as I get his reply, I'll post here.

Yep. Looks like the wheel was reinvented by Mosaic... Still, I think it's a good thing Mosaic finally added it to their site.

Since I consider the earlier Mosaic Giuffre box, the complete Capitol/Atlantic, to be a gem, I must agree. I suggested a Complete Verve Jimmy Giuffre Sessions box (and also a Complete Verve Lee Konitz Sessions box) to Mosaic a couple of years ago and they said they were interested - but that was all.

Can you say whether we'll like them? Some will, some won't... -

The Mosaic site (if that's what you mean) was last updated in May. Here's the "Future projects"page. They're planning new sets (not listed yet), but that's all I can say.
