    Lou Rawls

Just heard the news on Dutch radio. Very sad, another great voice gone.
  3. Happy birthday.
  4. Well, it did sound a bit dated, didn't it...
  5. Corrected, thanks.
  6. It's New Year's Day here now, time to wish Rob a great day and many happy returns!
  7. My advice would be to grab as much as you can, while you can - I did.
  8. I'm with you, brother. So am I
  9. He was Rita Reijs' second husband. Never liked his playing, too stiff to my ears. What I have heard sounds pretty nice. Nothing amazingly earthshattering, but nicely swinging and bopping along. I wouldn't call it stiff. Yurpean fersure, but not stiff. Unless of course you call all yuro-jazz stiff per definitionem. That might be it Seriously, I never liked Pim's playing.
  10. I'm looking for these Japanese Bethlehem TOCJs in excellent or better (preferably mint) condition: Max Bennett - Max Bennett – Bethlehem/Toshiba TOCJ-62005 Max Bennett - Max Bennett Plays – Bethlehem/Toshiba TOCJ-62006 Hal McKusick - Hal McKusic Quartet – Bethlehem/Toshiba TOCJ-62007 I'm not interested in other versions of these titles. I can only pay through my credit-card-linked PayPal account, or by electronic bank transfer (BIC/IBAN) within the euro zone. A trade would also be welcome - see my sale threads here and here. I also have these mini-LP sleeve 24-bit remasters for trade: Max Bennett - Max Bennet/Max Bennett Plays (2LPs-on-1CD) - Bethlehem/Toshiba TOCJ-9613 Hal McKusic - Hal McKusick Quartet - Bethlehem/Toshiba TOCJ-9614
  11. Today's exchange rates (approximately): £1 = $1.71 £1 = €1.49 €1 = $1.18 €1 = £0.69 $1 = £0.58 $1 = €0.85
  12. ??
  13. Happy birthday.
  14. They don't
  15. Some K2s sound bright and forward/loud, due to bumped up higher frequencies and some compression/maximization. It's all in the mastering, not so much the format.
  16. Back in vinyl days (1987 to be exact) they were reissued in Japan on an EmArcy album 'Renditions' (with uncredited original cover by Burt Goldblatt). It had the eight quartet sides with John Williams, Teddy Kotick and Art Mardigan plus the four sides with Don Joseph, Milt Gold and Al Cohn added. Very nice date. Sad to hear of de Arango passing! I had that Japanese LP back in my vinyl days. Nice date indeed.
  17. Who says the Evans set and the other sets you mentioned are big sellers? They may have just pressed a lot...
  18. You're right, there was some comment on the BNBB about the sets not being profitable, on the contrary. There was also some talk about a possible reissue of the Dexter Gordon box with less expensive packaging, but that project seems to have died.
  19. I hope the tracks he recorded for EmArcy in 1954 will be reissued.
  20. According to several encyclopedias he was born on September 20, 1921, so he was 84. Another loss...
  21. Happy birthday.
  22. I compared the RVG and Japanese "Blue Note Works" TOCJs a long time ago; I hated the RVG and sold it, and loved (still love) the TOCJs.
  23. I don't think so, Chris was lurking here earlier today and he last posted on December 18.
  24. Happy birthday, and many happy returns!
