  1. These two CDs contain demos, remixes, alternates, etc. Don't know if they're scarce, but I've seen them a few times on Amazon.com
  2. Steve Hoffman's remasterings sound very natural to me. He doesn't use compression/maximization and also doesn't manipulate EQ. As far as I know he mainly works in the rock/pop field, but he has also done a lot of jazz remasters, both for LP and CD. His DCC remasters are great; unfortunately, these are all OOP and much sought after. He's currently doing remasterings for the Audio Fidelity label.
  3. And many happy returns!
  4. Steve Hoffman site (he's one of the better remastering engineers)
  5. That's a wonderful series, but unfortunately the mastering is way too loud. I have 11 volumes, 1945-1955, but hardly play them because of the loudness...

  8. What Nate said.
  9. The Hewitt performance of The Well-Tempered Clavier is one of my favorites.
  10. I wasn't going to respond, but since you asked, no, I'm not going to pick this one up. Let's just say that Buddy Rich isn't my cup of tea.
  11. Herr and Frau can shove it. ( it = our constitution [nicely rolled up for a snug fit] which they certainly don't give a hoot about in this power gamblin' thing they're into at the moment). ← You're right, it's not a pretty sight.
  12. How about a game of Monopoly for, say, a thousand Euro? ← For our overseas friends, that's a little over $1,200
  13. By the way, good to have you back here, NOF!
  14. I see (I must admit that I didn't get your reply anyway , but now I do - I think )
  15. I don't know if you replied to my previous post, but I deleted that and reposted it (made a rather embarrassing error)
  16. But surely it isn't the same with CDs, is it? I've been buying (for my own collection) and selling (from my own collection) CDs on eBay for several years, and I've only had problems with one (U.K.) buyer - which did not result in negative feedback, by the way. Wy not make a difference between selling LPs (US only) and CDs (worldwide)?
  17. Happy birthday Stefan!
  18. Yeah, right... Isn't that "Frau Dorftrottelin"? Like "Frau Bundeskanzlerin", I guess ← I don't think that there is a title that goes along with that. At least I hope there isn't. ← Seriously, there was a lengthy discussion on one of the German TV channels about that the other day. They couldn't agree whether it should be "Bundeskanzlerin" or "Frau Bundeskanzler", should Frau Fraktionsvorsitzende win the next general election, either in October or next year (depending on the outcome of the Bundestag vote on Friday and the Bundespräsident's decision if Herr Bundeskanzler Schröder loses that vote)
  19. Yeah, right... Isn't that "Frau Dorftrottelin"? Like "Frau Bundeskanzlerin", I guess
  20. "Dorftrottel", that's a good one. I think I've heard that one a few times on German TV
  21. I'd never have guessed that... I was thinking of a corruption of "Rabatt", but the bathing rat now seems very logical
  22. Good grief, what dialect is that?? Is it "Was hast Du denn da"? ← Ding, ding, ding. That's 1 Euro 50 for you. You are welcome to collect at my place. I'll add a couple of generous shots of Tequila, or any other poison you subscribe to. Or you can double and figure this one out: "A Rat bat si." ("Fränkisch") ← Hmm, that's too downhome for me, "at a discount" is the best I can do but that's probably wrong. Is this spoken in and around Nürnberg?
  23. Good grief, what dialect is that?? Is it "Was hast Du denn da"?
  24. Dialect (but don't tell 'em. They might not get it). ←
