  2. I have it and it does. Thanks. A sonic improvement over previous versions? One of my favorite McLeans. (I forgot about Elusive Discs. Thanks, Hans.) I'm still waiting for importCDs to carry this title. You're welcome, Late. Haven't heard New Soil yet, but to my ears the CD layers (don't have an SACD player) of the AP/Blue Note hybrids I had didn't sound better than the BN Works versions (without bonus tracks) I have. They did sound a bit better to me than the McMaster versions (with bonus tracks) I also have, but if that's enough to justify the hybrids' much higher price...
  3. OK, no problem. Makes no difference if they're a stockist or an importer, it's illegal in the United States to sell stuff like that, period. Agreed.
  4. My initials are J.A.W., not JAWS - I don't appreciate the pun. To answer your question, I am indeed referring to those European public domain labels, whose releases are being sold illegally by Amazon (and other stores, for that matter) in the United States as far as the material is still under copyright there.
  5. Elusive Discs lists all the AP Blue Note hybrid SACDs. Clicking on the album titles will reveal the tracklistings, including bonus tracks (if any).
  6. Amazon have been selling non-licensed stuff for years. I'm surprised they haven't been sued before.

    Charlie Poole

Yazoo has released several compilations of old-time music. Many of them are still listed on their site. As with the 3 Charlie Poole County CDs I mentioned in my earlier post the sound is relatively excellent. Yazoo compilations (old-time music, blues) Yazoo is also available from County Records: Yazoo list Also check out County's own old-time compilations and the ones on Old Hat (see below). Seconded.

    Charlie Poole

I prefer the 3 Charlie Poole CDs that the County label put out: CO-CD-3501 Old Time Songs, Recorded from 1925 to 1930 CO-CD-3508 Vol.2: Old Time Songs, Recorded from 1926 to 1930 CO-CD-3516 Vol.3: Old Time Songs, Recorded from 1926 to 1930 They were mastered by Yazoo's Richard Nevins and the sound is relatively excellent; to my ears they sound better than the Sony compilation.
  9. Following Chuck's advice: Thanks. Look forward to hearing more in the early fall Well, the guy's just flogging his stuff. Does the board get a cut? It's fine and we see it here often, but let's not pretend it's anything other than it is. I agree. The fact that he's Shaw's son doesn't change anything as far as I'm concerned.
  10. That's funny. No frenzies or corporate manipulation over here, bud. Strictly for the music. What's relevant has been shared. Anything beyond that is either undisclosable or beyond the scope of this thread. I suggest focusing on the positive and not speculating on corporate conspiracies. Just be glad the music is coming out. (No rancor here, but maybe a bit of what-did-I-miss?) Sha (may I call you "Sha"?), I don't know you (you've only been here on Organissimo a short while) so you have no track record with me about your motives. You are anonymous and don't even say where you are when I click on you for further identification. Maybe I do know you, and you are "allowed" to call me "bud", but otherwise, please don't. I also don't need advice about corporate conspiracies. Been dealing with that for a looong time without your direction. Don't patonize me to tell I should be glad the music is coming out. Also, I don't need to be told where to focus. I spent 40 years in radio, being hustled by Promo Guys telling me "Craig Hundley may be only 15, but he blows Art Tatum away", and such, and you have the same tone here. I still wonder why you are willing to *tease* and say things like "undisclosable" and "beyond the scope of this thread" when that's why you opened it. (I really do appreciate that). But then you send people to a website that has no further info, when I all (and possibly others) wanted was (gulp) further info. When I seek that, you indicate Insider Knowledge that you'll dole out when it serves your purpose... If the purpose is to let Outsiders Without Knowledge admire you for being Inside, all you've done (for me, probably nobody else) is make me wonder why you don't just wait until the Shaw material (which I want, did I say that?) is actually available? I guess it's just that Promo-man tone I think I hear, that makes me feel I've run across Entertainment Tonight telling me to stand by by more info on Lindsay Lohan right after this message... I must admit that Shawoody's posts make me feel a bit uneasy too, they do indeed read like corporate promos, revealing just enough to keep people interested in the big Shaw bang later this year... [The suspense is killing me]
  11. And the family says she had a brain seizure from with drawl symptoms. We'll know more when the tests are in. Anybody that deep into their addiction has such a don't give a fuck/don't care attitude, it amounts to a death wish. I think you mean withdrawal symptoms Actually, here in Florida & Georgia many people show signs of "with drawl".
  12. Well, in fact the content IS the Mosaic, with performance recordings added, right? Well, it's kind of the opposite. The Mosaic was a compilation of THIS material. Mosaic didn't have any live recordings except Escape Velocity. Plus, this material has been remastered, there's bonus material, new notes, new photos, and new artwork - as with all of the current Columbia Boxsets. This is the product line: http://popmarket.com/features/25809191 New package altogether. I'm not trying to belabour this, but packaging aside, it's the same content as the Mosaic, with ALL of Stepping Stones (even previously unavailable tracks) added? I didn't get the Mosaic, so I'll be getting this one, but that popmarket link doesn't show anything about the Shaw release. How do you come by the details? Are you working on the project in some capacity? Inside info is always welcome! Correct. New product altogether. I've divulged as much as I can. Friends with the people who worked on the project. Well, if the 4 albums that were in the Mosaic set (mentioned in my earlier post) are included it won't be completely new product

  14. I have the Mosaic, and the albums that were included are: • Rosewood • Woody Three • For Sure • United
  15. EMI are known for using heavy noise reduction on their reissues, though I don't know if this set has been affected. I thought that was only on the 78-era material where clicks and pops were the norm even on the masters. This is way after that. I've been very happy with the other EMI Gold sets I've bought, such as the Hollies Clarke Hicks Nash box and the Matt Monro singles set. No, they also used heavy noise reduction on a lot of pop/rock and classical CD reissues and box sets with material from the 1950s and 1960s. I tried several, but got rid of most of them, the noise reduction artefacts were too annoying. Matt Monro's The Singer's Singer set from 2001 is a case in point, and so is the Animals' The Singles Plus 2CD-set from 1997 (the single CD with the same title from 1987 is excellent, though), and there are many more. On the other hand Matt Monro's Complete Singles Collection 5CD-set sounds good, no noise reduction was used on that box. Don't know about the Hollies box.
  16. EMI are known for using heavy noise reduction on their reissues, though I don't know if this set has been affected.
  17. Speaking as a guitarist and a jazz player generally I don't think Pat really changed at all. I heard him right at the beginning of his comeback (ca. 1984)and it was as if nothing had happened to him. Pretty remarkable. I think he changed some of the trappings, like switching to a solid-body. It sounds like his touch lightened some and that he might have switched to a lighter gauge string. But if you really listen his sound was always bass-heavy and dark, and still is. The content and concepts---the approach, and I won't go into all the details here---though relearned reveals no radical difference to me. No radical difference to me, either. Maybe not. I stopped listening to Martino after his first few albums (El Hombre, Strings!) because I didn't really like the music. My earlier statement was based on articles I've read on Martino, not on listening to his post-1980 albums. I should have made that clear.
  18. Ah yes, Alma Cogan; another singer who died way too young - she was 34 when she died in 1966. She recorded quite a few songs that didn't really suit her in my view, but she was a great singer. Watched the BBC documentary about her several times.
  19. Martino had brain surgery in 1980 and as a result completely forgot how to play. He had to learn it all over again, which led to a change of style.
  20. According to Michael Cuscuna/Michel Ruppli's Blue Note discography the April 7, 1952 session was led by Milt Jackson, that's probably why they reissued it under his name in the RVG series and didn't include it on the Monk RVG CDs.
  21. I remember her very well, she had one hit after another in the U.K. in the early 1960s. She was a great singer, she really stood out among other British pop singers of the pre-Beatles era. Some time ago I saw an interview with her, I think it was on the BBC.
  22. "Legacy" was a Columbia imprint and is now owned by a Sony. I think you're right in that Sony/Legacy posted it and that the site is not affiliated with them.
  23. Is "Soundcloud" Sony? And what is Soundcloud? They have lost of samples from the set posted. Someone assured me that it is a Sony/Legacy site, but now that you ask I don't see their logo anywhere. Maybe someone here knows more about it. Larry, please delete my link if it turns out not to be legit.
