  1. Nice! A little searching tells me that there were only a dozen or so Crumar Mainman instruments made! Apparently this is the first (or one of the first) synths with a drum machine built-in. Thanks for digging this up Adam! I will have to listen to the Horo music again. I really had a blast doing this bft. I haven't participated in a while. Maybe I should start again...
  2. Yoshimi Battles... is an extension of the sound that they created on The Soft Bulletin. The newest, At War With The Mystics further explores this with some really slick production techniques, including some Fennesz Endless Summer-like guitar. Really, this is a brand new era for their music. You may be interested in the four disc album Zaireeka (all four discs are to be played simultaneously) and Clouds Taste Metallic, but The Soft Bulletin really starts a new sound for The Flaming Lips. I believe The Soft Bulletin is also the first The Flaming Lips album to be released in an alternate 5.1 format.
  3. How could you not get it for that price. I can't even buy a sammich around here for that!
  4. In my opinion, it is up to the rider whether or not he/she wears a helmet. I can't imagine the odds of a fatal accident decrease THAT much when you strap one on. Its like buying two lotto tickets instead of one. The odds are still pretty much the same, all math aside. Like Jim said, there are more bad drivers out on the road than good drivers. You are assuming a risk in anything smaller than a Tahoe at this point. Riding a motorcycle requires a heightened awareness on the road. T or F | A quarterback is required to wear a helmet during game play to avoid head trauma in every state in the U.S. T or F | A quarterback is not required to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle in many states in the U.S.
  5. Love doesn't sell. Sex sells.
  6. That is interesting. I wouldn't take them as jazz-influenced musicians. May be one of the new guys? I know they're out of Louisville Kentucky, and I know they have had a couple of new musicians join in recent years. Their sound has changed over time as well, which makes it tough to recommend a starting point. I like the earlier albums, but what I've heard of their later stuff is also very pleasing. Certainly a new approach though.
  7. I thought the Daisy/Rempis duets were very nice. Clean clean playing from both of them. Very focused and engaging throughout. I really enjoyed listening to the two of them together. Of the Okkas I purchased this time around, I have listened to the Jeb Bishop Trio/Quartet album Afternoons the most. I especially like the ensemble sound of the quartet.
  8. That's one jam-packed southeastern tour! I don't know how much My Morning Jacket y'all have heard, but they are another great recommedation.
  9. I have a friend whose brother is named Devil Boy 4999. His parents called him Hank.
  10. I made it to the Cezanne exhibit at the National Gallery in April. Or was it March?
  11. No Wolleson or Amendola? Graves? Alvin Fielder? Alvin Fielder. Steve McCall? Cyrille? Bill Stewart. Bob Gullotti! I like your list because it covers a broad range of drummers, stylistically. These guys fit into your list well. If you aren't familiar, check them out in no particular order.
  12. Related, Stephen Flynn will be playing solo at DMG June 4.
  13. I just wanted to say thank you to Bertrand and everyone else here who puts in the time and effort to set the record straight.
  14. "Dear Sir" At least he's a Wayne Shorter fan.
  15. I just pre-ordered after looking at those pics! Maybe a little premature.
  16. John, You DA man. Loves it. Those guys who write letters to penthouse about amputees probably love it too. LON! HA!
  17. Be careful what you wish for.
  18. I just wish I had more money.
  19. I'll weigh in. I've got positive and negative experience with both. They are still computers when it comes right down to it. I'm typing this on a Gateway Tablet right now. Yes, my company has done a fantastic job of guarding it with software that is constantly using up my RAM, but I haven't gotten a virus yet. InDesign crashes here and there, but its my own fault for letting a file get too big before "save as". This is a little hoodoo that I have learned since working with graphics files on the PC. I have wiped an iMac Graphite and an ibook 800mhz down to 0. What a liberating experience. Both of the them run amazingly now, and have for over two years. No issues whatsoever. Partitions have been good to me. I am about to max out the RAM on the ibook and load Ableton Live on the ibook, which will really test the processor. The ibook has been banged around quite a bit too. Good little computer. I like it a lot. I also like the Gateway fine. Sounds funny, but it has been great so far. InDesign and Photoshop, Excel, and (gulp) Lotus Notes are pretty much all that I ever run on this thing. Seems to be fine. Did anyone notice the optical audio output on the new Macbook?
  20. Someone has to turn this into a Monday Michiru thread...
