The phrase "it's not entirely semantics" is semantic. -

In a different context, I have a serious problem with child pornography and I have a serious problem with a lawyer who says Bill Barton has not admitted his guilt. It's over. He has come out with it. Semantics. -
Nothing left to say about the music? Here we are. I Remember Clifford's Thread.

jazz that sucks--kurt goes off on jazz

I've never knowingly heard him, and now probably won't take the time to check him out. So take that Rosie. -
Maybe it is because I am not gay, but I just can't see people caring at this point. In what historical context does it matter? I know most of you guys are from a diffenrent generation than I... nevermind. I have no idea why you think someone's homosexuality is important. Your open-mindedness feels as ignorant as my dad's close-mindedness.

hahahaha! I'm told that a lot of jazz musicians were also black. Can anybody confirm? So far I have Miles, Coltrane, Monk, Ellington, Basie, Bird, Armstrong, Kenton. And those are just the well-known names! Anyone else you can think of that might have been black?

Are we supposed to read between the lines here? "Most meticulous researcher"? Is it ok for me to say that Larry Gusshee is gay at this point, or should I wait until he's been dead and gone for a while? I'm goug to go ahead with it. Larry Gushee is gay. Allen Lowe told me on a message board. What? Irresponsible journalism? SFW?

Themselves, and me. Because I only think what someone else writes. Thanks a lot Kurt Rosenwinkel. -

"Uninformed remarks" I think jazz's biggest problem is that it feels the listener has to be informed. Dumb old rock n roll has taken the same turn. Not everyone cares to read or talk about music. Some folks just want to listen, socialize, imbibe. If someone could please tell me where I fit in to this whole thing, I'll feel a lot more confident in my taste in music. -

Well this is one way to make a tiny potential fan base even more tiny. Yawn. I heard Nicholas Payton come out and play with David Tarkonowski, George Porter Jr., and Zigaboo Modeliste at NO Jazz Fest this past Spring. The group was called Fluer DeBris. He was guesting, but man was that rhythm section dynamic, empathic, exciting. Really great stuff and a complete surprise for me, only being familiar with Meters and various studio rhythm tracks. Wow. Too bad Rosenwinkel wasn't in that tent. Serious heat. -
Spacebomb Records is recording everything to tape. Vocals, rhythm tracks, horn sections, strings, chorus. Great label based around a versatile house band. All releases on vinyl only plus dub mixes available to limited download. http://spacebombrecords.com/

Interesting point about country/americana (if you only like the old stuff). It seems to have come into its own either recently, or as I've grown older. I'm just in my thirties, mind you, but country music, hillbilly music, mountain music, roots bluegrass music, etc. etc. etc. all had a negative connotation growing up through the eighties and nineties. Was it the times, or my age? Seems that was the case with popular country acts too. Judging by their music, they have, and for the most part, continue to distance themselves from thiem cusins.

Hard to say! You may luck out in the first few years... you may spend a decade trying to get it right. That's part of the reward right? The Quest! Check it. Nice experiment here, specifically Ambrosia seeds: http://www.mastergardeners.org/projects/ninepalms/2006/melon.html
-
Well it's a seed, a varietal, so you could grow your own if you had the means. Do a search. Lots of great sharing these days online with regard to homegrown food and small scale farming! "Homesteading" has found a new generation...

Although most honeydew I have had has never come close to even an average cantaloupe, there have been a few that almost (almost) beat out even my fondest cantaloupe memory. Yes to Ambrosia! As everyone has said, melons are best bought from local farms. And cantaloupe ripens extremely quickly in the fridge! Especially once sliced!

Warne Marsh" Big Two" Is it as good as it looks?

I love this set. 2CD from Storyville I think? I bought a copy for my brother I love it so much! Recommended without hesitation. -
I remember liking that Fieldwork album. Leeway, the theoretical vibe might actually work in its favor on this one. Worth a listen...
-
See, that cantaloupe looks perfect, but the honeydew looks like I just wasted my money on rind.

Agreed.
