Happy Birthday Baby Mac

I've read that many people created a makeshift chimney using that exact can, as prescribed by Woz. I think he actually preferred a tapered cardboard chimney, but... -

Anyone have trouble with orders from Jazz Loft?
.:.impossible replied to peterintoronto's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I've never had any issues ordering from jazzloft.com. I have however had issues with the mail service. -
Just understand that none of the recommendations listed above will sound anything like "The Dead". Or vice-versa...

Whether or not CDRs fail, data storage is moving away from that trend.

Recent Down Loads And Additions From E - Music

I'm listening now to Sapporo, November 18, 1976, Part 1. Simply beautiful, stunning improvised music. I just bought this LP set for $30 at a local shop. I had no idea what to expect. After listening to the first three sides, I still don't have a clue what the fourth will sound like. I was intrigued by the first LP, but side 3 wasn't so pleasant. Might have been my mood. Either way... I'm glad I grabbed it. I don't think the records had been played more than once, thought he box itself has come unbound from the pages. The plus here is that I can't here Jarrett vocalizing at all! -
Seriously... the squeezebox sounds very good to me, regardless of file format. I have a modest stereo system. Nothing special, but I hear that folks that do spend $$$ on gear also agree. It seems to fit right into an audiophile set-up as well. I stream high quality VBR, FLAC, WAV, and play from the actual CD itself to discern any differences in blind A/B tests with willing ears. The only time I can REALLY hear a difference is playing from the actual CD. Same with other folks. It is a different source, and it sounds different. Not better. Just sounds like a different source. I actually prefer the sound of the squeezebox to that of my CD player. I also have plenty of emusic mp3s... generally music that I wouldn't have ever gone out of my way to find, and I have no qualms with the sound of those files either. I don't know...

Man, I'm starting to think something is wrong with my ears...

Sorry to go off topic, but I haven't yet put together who e-man is. If you want to remain anon, that's cool, of course. I respect that. A few recent posts have me curious though.

Most folks would prefer lossless, I'd guess. I'd also guess that they are going to take what they can get. Then again, I'm thinking about the people I know (not on this board), some of them musicians, and they don't know what to do with a FLAC. I mention this because I have ripped a vast majority of my CDs to FLAC (some of them to VBR for A/B comparison) for streaming through a Squeezebox. When explaining the process to people, they stop at FLAC. Too complicated... Lack of knowledge. I think it is a good idea to offer hi-res files and a lower tier for folks who don't care. A decent VBR mp3...

I don't think that the people that are interested in the musics that you have spent your life documenting are looking forward to mp3s Chuck. The fact of the matter is, downloadable files, whether they be mp3 or something with less loss or even FLAC, are a solution to so many catalogs that will never, ever see another dime of marketing, distribution, love, or effort from anyone. To be honest, I think people are looking forward to having the music readily available.

My brother plays with Glows in the Dark, a saxophone, trombone, guitar, bass, drums quintet led by guitarist Matt Burton. He focuses on reworking film score and soundtrack work. Some of you might have an interest. Here is a link to his blog, featuring mp3s and interviews with other musicians, many of whom are discussed here frequently (looks like Jason Ajemian is next). Well, based on the new rules, we have some majority shareholders here... I remember reading in some of the collectors' posts that there were very few BN releases that they were left to acquire. Masters aside, because that is just mind-boggling... I'm just trying to wrap my head around this whole thing. A company that pays for recording sessions, mixing sessions, mastering sessions, printing, duplication, distribution, and marketing does not keep at least one sample of each finished product?

Can you imagine sitting in the meeting with the guys that came up with this one? "OK. so I didn't sleep a wink last night. Lightning struck and it came to me. I've got it!" "(Sigh) Let's hear it..." "OK, so you know that record label that I was telling you about? Blue Note Records? Yeah, yeah, the jazz label!" "CD-Rs." "What?" "CD-Rs!" "How in the hell is this a good idea?!" "We don't have to pay anyone for duplication! We are going to do it ourselves!" (Motions to an external CD-burner that he purchased on the way in this morning) "You're a moron." "Look. We burn the discs. We print the booklets. We print disc labels. We trim the booklets. We saddle-stitch the booklets. We print, trim, and fold the tray cards. I'll get an intern to insert the booklets and tray cards into the jewel cases, and snap everything together! We can do this!" "OK, so you are saying that we spend budget on blanks, jewel cases, paper stock, inkjet cartridges, which cost a fucking fortune, staples, and everything required to get these things into the mail stream. Am I missing anything?" "I think that's it... and I think you are exaggerating on the price of inkjet carts, don't you? Not bad, eh?!!" "And this is an on-demand product. No inventory?" "That's the beauty of it! We have no exposure or risk whatsoever!" "Well, its possible that we could build into the retail the cost to outsource the print & fold piece. There's an Alphagraphics right across the street." "See! Brilliant right?!" "Its not bad... I'm sure there are at least a hundred people out there looking for, say James Newton's Revolution and Romance." "Pfaaa... at LEAST!"

They've taken an incredibly niche product and found an even smaller niche to market to.

I know he has been discussed here before. Time to pull out the Golden Circle discs! I have the Byard album, and don't remember loving it as much as I had hoped to when I read the line-up. I'll pull that one this week as well!

I was telling a friend about this beer last night... he's not particularly a jazz fan, and asked if anyone had ever labeled a beer "Bitches Brew"?
