Cover Art is great, especially in the larger formats, and less impressive in the CD formats. I have to say, in comparison to CD formats, I like it much better glowing in the dark on a nice screen. -

So many things about the grocery store have annoyed me for a while now, including the produce stickers. Grocery bags. I'm glad that the trend is to bring your own bag to the store again. My grandmother used to bring her own bags. Maybe that's why it made no sense to me that people would take trash from the store and throw it away at their house. Do I really need a bag to put my bag of potato chips in? No. Would I like a bag for my chapstick? Seriously? One bag is plenty for the orange juice. Produce bags. Do I really need to bag my apples? God forbid they touch my tomatoes. Unfortunately, I know someone who makes their living selling bags to grocery stores. I understand why they push those damn things on us. -

We rely on the computer models updated on a regular basis by weatherunderground.com . We had it easy with Hanna last week. Just some clean-up. I have a feeling it won't be the last system to affect us this year.

Blue Ray Discs: Any recommendations?
.:.impossible replied to medjuck's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I hesitate to buy into Blu-Ray. After seeing Verizon Fios at my parents' house a few weeks back, I am sort of doubtful that hardware will have a place in the market for very long. The 1080p on-demand that I have experienced at my house is nice (TW), but nothing at all compared to the Fios signal that I saw. Still, DVDs are stunning, and I only have a progressive scan Sony from years back connected to my Panasonic! I've considered upgrading to a upconvert Oppo, or even a Blu-Ray, but I don't own many DVDs as is, and can't imagine investing in a format at this point. I've seen Blu-Ray, and it is gorgeous, but I just don't know how much MORE gorgeous it really is unless I am sitting a foot from the screen. -

"insipid" has cj been one of clem's alter-egos all along? I'm in the car all day, so I find myself getting sick of my own music, and the radio. Sometimes I just have to shut it all down. -
The EP will be released by Clean Feed on 9/9... The band just played at Gojjo in Philadelphia. I know there are a bunch of Philly-folk here. Sorry I didn't get the word out. The new stuff they have posted on the myspace site is great! Satchel Paige, Bandolier. Good Good Good. Looking forward to hearing what y'all think of this band.

I had a feeling this was a Miceli thing. Did he take his old website and vibe.net and combine them? Looks like he stepped up his video productions! Nice. Thanks for the link Bruce. I'll check this site out more later...

If you are worried about the link going dead, copy/paste the text into a wordpad or textedit file. Save it to your own hard drive, or get an evernote account.

Here we go... http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200807.html Two close friends of ours just bought a house near Audobon Park to be closer to family. They are in Watercolor this weekend watching the maps closely. Looking at some hot, open water between Jamaica and the Gulf Coast. I've got my fingers crossed. Hanna's got a fast lane too, though predictions are early...

Definitely sounds like $200 worth to me! Thanks for the tip. I wish I had known. I've tiled about 650 sq ft of our house over the past three years. It would have been nice to have owned the wet saw, instead of watching the clock on rentals... I could use a finishing gun. Quite a few projects around here that my wife would like for me to finish! -

You know you've made it when you are popular on the trackers.

Honestly, with the ECMs, there's not much to go with the "physical" part - just the artwork. No liner notes or anything that can't be easily found on places like AMG. I mean the disc itself. I don't trust hard drives or CD-Rs. With emusic, you don't have to trust hardware. Everything you have ever paid for is saved in your profile. If your hard drive fails, you've got everything "backed up" on their server.

interesting... the first time i opened the site, i didn't see an address bar on the pop-up window. i got it now... thanks! tons of stations here. Out of curiosity, are you familiar with Squeezebox? I would love to be able to click "internet radio" > "accuradio" > "chicago jazz festival". Similiar to the way that Live Music Archive works, or some of the other radio providers (radioio, last.fm, many npr stations, etc). I generally listen to my own collection, but it is nice sometimes to tune in every once in a while. One of this month's featured albums is Roscoe Mitchell Sound! That is inspiring. I see that y'all have a list of featured labels. Do you also work with "independent" labels by chance? This bulletin board is run by one. Big O Records. hey, thanks for checking back in.

Soul Shakedown and Sun Is Shining are personal favorites. I haven't listened to much of Wailers stuff in a long time. Some nice stuff up on youtube... I know this is a Tosh feature, but the groove!

Maybe they're assuming that most people are purchasing the music, taking it home, and ripping it to their hard drive. The only time they ever play the disc is in the car on the way home. I remember being seven or eight years old. My aunt made me a mix tape. I became curious about what music my parents had around the house. I am still blown away that there was a collection of lps in a cabinet under the stereo. All of them had been played once... as they were being dubbed to cassette for the car stereo.

It was great meeting you guys last year... we wish we were heading out there again this year. Maybe next year!

What would you do if you could get an oop album as digital files for $5? $4? $3? $2? $1? $0.50? Are you still cool with that? Say the marketplace sets the price, and it is atrociously low. Folks like Chuck Nessa never get their investment back, but its not free, so you're not actually stealing right? Is that ok? Or are you just not ok with free because nobody makes out except the listener? I mean, I wouldn't pick a penny up off the sidewalk. I wouldn't hurt a fly and my karma is completely balanced. I've never even thought an evil thought. A friend of mine downloaded an album once. I found out, drove over to his house and deleted the files immediately. I then called the cable company and cancelled his service. His conscience didn't get the best of him, so I did it myself. I know what's right. For everybody. What's the real issue here? Isn't there an op/ed columnist we could write to to get the answer? Surely someone knows what to do! Now listening: Sam Rivers Mosaic. Paid full price and tipped the website 20%.

I listened to the entire album this morning... I guess I'm wrong. I think this should be a popular album. I may listen to it more often now that I've given it another listen. Still, not the kind of music that I usually listen to. Maybe I'll pull out Golden Quartet and see how it compares since its another trumpet quartet with Dejohnette on kit. That one was always good, but never hit me square on... maybe I'm wrong!
