  1. I do confess, though, that a friend sent me a mega-upload link to some freddie mccoy about a month ago. He also sent me an advance copy of the latest Gnarls Barkley album. I downloaded both. I've since bought two freddie mccoy leader dates, one sideman date, and both Gnarls Barkley albums. Still looking for Funk Drops...
  2. I just don't see how it is going to be possible to "digitize" *everything*. People are doing all they can, and this includes the people publicly and blindly sharing on the sites in this discussion. The cracks will always be too big, and the grass will always grow... Is everything going to be treated like a subscription service? Suddenly, the entire recorded world is available to me, but I have the same amount of time to dedicate to listening to recorded sound. Buffets are disgusting, but I digress. I am aware of the blogs, but it just isn't my thing. I much prefer to discover music on my own terms. If I have to wait for Chuck to release it properly, so be it. Naivety is bliss. I have my entire life. Which may end tomorrow.
  3. I received mine a couple days ago and have had a chance to listen twice. Sounds great guys.
  4. Chances are I don't have any of the albums you are looking to get rid of, and would more than likely enjoy them as much or more than you did... I would be willing to pay $x for a stack of LPs, chosen at random by you. I know this doesn't solve your problem, but I'd be glad to help!
  5. Very scary. I'm glad to hear that everyone is recovering.
  6. Yeah, I figured it out after listening to the side again. For some reason, I was drawing a total blank. I should have gone to the sleeve notes... I really like this record. I bought it a few months ago and have listened to it often. His vocalizations don't bother me as much as they probably bother others. I'm curious about his MPS stuff.
  7. It is something totally obvious... maybe from Kind of Blue? I can't believe I don't own a copy of Kind of Blue... where did they go?
  8. This composition is credited to Pike, but it sounds so familiar... is it because I have listened to this record so much that I think it is another tune? Or did this become a "standard"?
  9. I remember back in college reading that these shows were being considered for an album back then and were rejected by the entire band. What gives? It would be cool to see the DVD would be cool either way.
  10. Good chimes are extremely expensive. I'd say prohibitively expensive. I personally like the sound of them, but I play vibes and could listen to four note patterns at random intervals all day long.
  11. I followed that link and read the comments. I had forgotten that Bobbi Humphrey was on the Last Session. Is there anything to add substance to this detail? I could give a shit either way. It just struck me as odd.
  12. I didn't know the Bobbi Humphrey detail...
  13. She has a gorgeous voice too, chew chew. You ought to check her out.
  14. i have no idea what sangrey is trying to say. anyone? some of the most oblique language i have read from you, and that is saying a lot! i don't know much about benson. i have the new boss guitar of george benson (montego joe sounds amazing!), but that's about it. i've heard the radio hits. sounds like he has changed his tune to me. red sox 18 twins 5
  15. I attempted to post something to this effect and didn't finish it.
  16. That's true. Unfortunately, though, it's not aimed at you, either. I seem to find plenty that is aimed in my general direction, regardless of what year it was recorded, regardless of what continent it was recorded, regardless of what genre it was given. I'm listening to a Comets on Fire album right now that seems just fine. Nice and loud and rockin'. Yeah, lots of throwback stuff going on right now, but coming from a different generation. I'm ok with that.
  17. Being of the generation that I am, I never thought much of Clapton because a) everyone I knew had that Columbia House Greatest Hits compilation that was about as awesome as The Eagles and b) I have never heard a great guitar solo by Eric Clapton that didn't sound like a great guitar solo by "insert name here" guitar player. I just grabbed The Complete Buddy Holly 6 lp at the store yesterday and I am blown away by the early Lubbock, TX stuff. I don't really care what year the music was recorded. I hear tons of punk influence, among other things, in this stuff. And I hear tons of punk influence in music in recent years. Music is a great, big tree and the branches did not stop growing, regardless of what you think. I'm certainly not looking for a rock superstar. As has been said before, that era is over. Rock is not what it was. It is diffuse and, for the most part, moving in lateral directions from its "golden age". Nothing's gone wrong with it. It just might not be aimed at you anymore.
  18. When I was in high school, it seemed like everyone who owned the Operation Ivy album immediately started a band. They ended up sounding more like early Green Day, but it was a pretty "influential" album by Eno's standard. Great album in my book regardless of how important it is to you. p.s. I didn't start a band.
  19. That Fielder Trio album misses for me. I'll give it another go. I really enjoyed Alvin Fielder live.
  20. Seems like every Fania lp I have is severely warped. Still playable, but...
  21. I've never liked Feast of Wire that much. A bunch of friends like it a lot. I don't know. Of the Calexico that I have heard, I like "Spoke" the best. And some of the stuff they have done with Howe Gelb as Giant Sand. I'm sure it doesn't stack up to anything they would have been doing in the 60s though...
  22. I'm really enjoying this album, but I've learned that I'm just so much less critical as a listener than edc and akanalog, and others here. helen, you should definitely sign up for emusic. this is a perfect album to blow five downloads on. cost me less than a buck and a half.
