  1. Yes it's called A Day with Satchmo and contains the masters as well as the alternates. You mean this one I assume: https://thejazzword.wordpress.com/2014/08/01/one-day-in-the-studio-with-satchmo/ Lon, I see that the Hello Louis! is just a 2-cd set with no alternates as far as I can read. Do you mean by any chance, the final disc of the trumpet-case 10-Cd set Satchmo - Ambassador of Jazz?
  2. You mean the Symphony Hall one? Do not forget the Hollywood Bowl as well.
  3. don't know that one, which is it? I've Got the World on a String/Under the Stars 2 cd on Verve. Thanks. I missed it when it was still in print...
  4. If I want to cancel anything from my cdjapan orders, I just reply them to their "order confirmation" message writing them to cancel whatever items I want to be removed from my order and some hours later they do it.
  5. The Louis Armstrong Blu Spec CD-2, sounds wonderful - better than the 1999 SACD. Fuller and easier to the ears. The whole family enjoyed it at loud levels. I wonder where this 2005 DSD transfer comes from. The Legacy transfer is from the 90s. Perhaps, the japanese remastered it in 2005? Anybody could guess? Edit: it seems that there has been a 2005 release from Japan (incl. the Legacy bonus tracks, that are omitted from the 2014 Blu Spec 2 cd): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plays-W-C-Handy-Louis-Armstrong/dp/B0007OE5D2/ref=sr_1_15?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1425840508&sr=1-15&keywords=louis+armstrong+handy
  6. Acc. to wikipedia "On February 8, 2013, UMG sold to Warner Music Group the Parlophone Music Group consisting of Parlophone Records, Chrysalis Records, EMI Classics, Virgin Classics and EMI Records' Belgian, Czech, Danish, French, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Slovak and Swedish divisions, to a value of $765 million (£487 million)". So, Blue Note remained with Universal, if I get it right.
  7. The stereo is the original master tape transfer, meaning Astrud's voice comes from the left channel at the "Girl from Ipanema." Proceed without any hesitation.

  9. Just received 3 discs from these series. For those interested, Bud Powell's "Swingin with Bud" mentions 2002 transfer, "Strictly Powell" 2004, and Don Ellis At Fillmore fresh DSD 2014. Also, the Bue-spec2 cds of Louis plays WC Handy and Powell's "A portrait of Thelonious" carry 2005 DSD transfer.

  11. Thanks for the link. "New Wine in Old Bottles" is also very good. I am playing it right now. McLean is in great form. Nice transition to "Round Midnight" theme. Recommended. http://www.allmusic.com/album/new-wine-in-old-bottles-mw0000188133 What is KJLH?
  12. This one? https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/jazz/detail/-/art/Donald-Byrd-Gigi-Gryce-The-Complete-Jazz-Lab-Sessions-Limited-Edition/hnum/3351040
  13. I ve purchased the SHMs of State of the Tenor and will compare with the double 90s set - I ll let you know when they arrive and be played. Wonderful sets.
  14. I love it when sophisticated Jazz pianists play the blues - I am talkin' about Ray Bryant's SHM-CD "Alone with the Blues" that I just received and played twice. I did not know this record at all. Very nice but somehow short. Nice analogue sounding with interesting introductory note by Ira Gitler. By the way, which other solo piano recording from the 50s and 60s would you recommend? Thanks Alex

  16. It is out today acc. to amazon.co.uk
  17. Exactly this 2-lp set made it for me in the late 80s. Within a year or two I purchased all his Atlantic output (80s US LP reissues) and still I think this is my preferred Trane period and it could be a nice introduction for anybody.
  18. Indeed. His recent Philips recording (Uchida) of the Berg Chamber cto omits the repeat again. He should have recorded the Berg cto with a more deserving violinist indeed [e.g. with Kavakos in Cleveland a decade ago]. But these Three Pieces for Orchestra are great. Also, the Columbia box includes the Berg's Altenberg Lieder with Lukomska - one of his great records not to be missed
  19. The Columbia box includes the long unavailable recording of "Le Marteau sans maitre" with Minton (issued on CD only once in Japan in the late 80s). His best recording of this work.
  20. In case you missed it, ARTE WEB still offers the 90th Boulez Birthday Concert from Baden-Baden: http://concert.arte.tv/fr/concert-anniversaire-90-ans-pierre-boulez "... explosante - fixe ..." pour flûte soliste, deux flûtes, ensemble et électronique Première sonate pour piano Avec Pierre-Laurent Aimard au piano Dérive 1 Douze Notations pour piano Notations I à IV et VII pour orchestre Also, Pli selon Pli and Varese Arcana with the Ensemble Intecontemporain: http://concert.arte.tv/fr/lensemble-intercontemporain-interprete-boulez-et-varese-la-philharmonie-de-paris Finally, Boulez conducting at: http://live.philharmoniedeparis.fr/Artiste/boulez.html
  21. Hi Erwin. My Originals "Transition" CD from Vol. 5 box has the same tracks and at the same order as the 2011 SHM-CD. You mean that it was not like this, and was later corrected? Thanks Alex
  22. I just received and am playing it right now. The clarity and presence are indeed beyond any expectation indeed! Fabulous sessions.
  23. I just received the Milt Jackson Blue Note SHM-CD and it is clearly mentioned on the rear card that it contains "original remastering by RVG" - does it mean that the well known RVGs have been re-remastered on top for these SHM-CDs? Do the Genius Monk SHM-CDs bear the same credit to RVG? Thanks. Rudy Van Gelder mastered the 12" LP, hence "original remastering by Rudy Van Gelder." True, but this is not mentioned on other SHM-CDs as well, whose the original LP versions were also remastered by RVG. Yes it is, go check your version of Thelonious Monk Trio (UCCO-5227) from the Prestige 7000 series. It gives two remastering credits, one for the 12"LP compilation from the fifties and one 2013 DSD credit. Another example is Eminent J.J. Johnson Vol.1. I get it. Thanks! But, as another question in general, when it is not mentioned [e.g. Larry Young's Unity] does it mean that the original recording pressed on vinyl back then was not remastered by RVG (inlikely?), or the SHM-CD DSD remaster is not based on the original RVG remastering meaning that Cuscuna used the non-mastered mixed down tape and had it remastered anew for the SHM-CD?
