Don't forget to get the Hemphill, Dogon A.D., before it goes out of print. International Phonograph links to this internet store which has twenty copies left. I am panicked now... That store asks for 36$ to ship it to EU. However, I could choose a US address of a relative to save these s/h costs, but as a reminder of the old days, they want the billing address of the credit card to be the same as the shipping address... Any ideas? The same store also has 5 copies listed on ebay, shipping $13.85 to the EU. ... and 2 at amazon.com. I am going from there. Many thanks for the alarm and the advise. Alex And cd received by my relative in Atlanta, GA who will bring it to me in Athens in about one month via France... This is just a small indication how the Internet and the digital technology (...and the strong Euro) benefited music lovers/collectors living in the "periphery"... Magic!

I am playing "This time ..." just now. Wonderful.

Received this CD today ordered from importcds. What a beautiful reissue (sleeve made in Japan). Unbelievable. And what a price ($13.50)! I went ahead and ordered the other 3 cds from these series: Bill Dixon, Clare Fisher and Carter/Bradford.

What live music are you going to see tonight?

Skalkottas' Cycle Concert tonight. -
I think only one Burrell is for now reissued in these SHM series: Is there another one?

do you know what the file type was.....? FLAC 24/192, that's all I recall. HD tracks offers 24/96 for this title. I wonder who offers 24/192? http://www.hdtracks.com/ella-and-louis

Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
RiRiIII replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Hutcherson and Mercer arrived! Zeitlin hopefully next week! -
Yes, Ella and Louis is a favorite among audiophiles. A great recording per se. Gold DCC cd, Japanese SACD, SHM-SACD, APO SACD, Blu-ray audio (this one includes both and complete Ella & Louis and Again). Your WC Handy/Armstrong assessment is interesting as well: have you also compare it to the SACD? Does the Blu-Sec2 CD carry the latest Legacy remaster? Thanks.

I am not convinced the Platinum SHM-CDs are noticeably improved - I purchased the Art Pepper, Bill Evans and the Coltrane ballads - also ran the gauntlet of the Dutch Customs and was not wowed in a superlative way. But I also purchased Ella and Louis and was greatly impressed with the dynamic sound stage. I only tried A Love Supreme Platinum SHM-CD, and I was thrilled compared to the APO SACD. Your comment on Ella and Louis intrigued me all the more since, as most of us I suppose, already own various versions of this record.

The new SHM-CD is anonymously "DSD Remastered in 2013." Day and night compared to the old OJC. Even to the worst sounding of these old sessions, the new SHM-CD managed to remove the veil without shifting disturbingly to the brightness area. Again, a far more convenient listening. Invest!

Gentlemen, we are talkin' here about the apocalypse. Finally, the soundstage is back along with the musicality and smoothness. Easily crankable. I "fear"/hope that these Prestige and New Jazz SHM CDs set new level in affordable digital music. Next, to "Conception." FYI: DSD Remastered by Paul Blackmore at CMG Mastering Studio, 2013.

or make it look like this (although Isra's brownie colours cannot fit with these red obis etc - same for Ornette Coleman's New York is Now!):

I wonder if the Platimum SHM-CD of Colossus has the same mastering as the magnificent SHM-SACD (the latter had "the latest 2010 national original analog tape DSD master"). If not I would be very tempted. Edit: the Platimum SHM-CD actually has a very *tempting* description: "HR cutting from 2013, latest DSD master using United States original analog master". http://www.universal-music.co.jp/p/UCCO-40002?s=100179

What a great record "Odyssey of Iska" is! I cannot wait for it to arrive. Hopefully my system and ears will give JazzBo justice!

Indeed. I played Winners Circle last night (the previous mini lp series) - really a very nice record; as a consequence I preordered this 2cd Coltrane set to be released on the 12th of March '14 (of course I could have get just the Art Blakey Big Band released last year but it was not available from cdjapan, so... - I ll check the mastering differences of the Winners CD for the forum's benefit...) along with two more Bethlehem titles to be released that date (Stan Levey/Plays the compositions, and the Terry Pollard ones); a very productive ordering session last night thanks to this forum , with some tiltles from the Sony reissues (Garner Paris, Willen x 2 , Duke suites, Ornette, Woods x 2, Louis at Town Hall, Parker Birdland), Prestige 7000 (Sonny Criss Kaleidoscope, Teddy Charles collaboration West, James Moody x 3), Atlantic (Teddy Charles Bird).

Same here ! ...and here ...here too -
I reacted slowly to the first japanese Bethlehem batch - now I have to pay the price... Just received the Dick Wetmore from a japanese amazon.uk seller (great packaging by the way by TOMMY) and ordered Stan Levey's 'This Time the Drums..' and 'Grand Stan' as well as 'Sincerely, Conti'. My West Jazz mood came back this morning by playing "Jack Montrose Sextet" from those great Pacific Jazz series on CD "West Coast Classics" produced by Cuscuna in the late 90s. Any more recommendations from these series would be really welcomed!!
-
One thing that I try to watch out for on these reissues is whether the material was already issued in another form. That Stan Levey, great session, was half of "West Coasting" another session featuring Conte Candoli. The other half of the West Coasting album was reissued earlier as part of the current series ("Toots Suite," or "Sincerely Conte," I forget which). If you have "West Coasting" (reissued on the TOCJ series years ago), no need to purchase the current offering unless you want the different album cover. I don't know what copy of "West Coasting" fetches used, but it may be cheaper than buying two new CD's. It's the "Sincerely, Conte", actually, that makes the one half of that 2000 "West Coasting" CD; the other half as you said is Stan Levey's "Plays the Compositions of Bill Holman, Bob Cooper and Jimmy Giuffre".

Thank God...

This one should be one of the most popular: 3-7 days availability at its release date!

Miles Davis Blindfold Test
RiRiIII replied to Dave James's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
I like this one: "As for Gilberto, he could read a newspaper and sound good! I'll give that one five stars."
