  1. The newly arrived Ella and Webb Decca sessions; Disc IV.
  2. And, *luckily* two of the three Turrentine titles are part of the Mosaic Turrentine Quintets/Sextets set. The third title is Z.T.'s Blues with Grant Green which is not included in the Mosaic set. Any ideas about this one (awful sleeve)?
  3. Prost! Could you also wish, perhaps, Mosaic to release "The Complete Kenny Burrell Blue Note and Prestige recordings & sessions" or "The Complete Duke Ellington recordings for Pathé, Banner, Cameo Perfect, Romeo, Okeh and Columbia 1925-1931"?
  4. The Japanese revealed your secret powers.
  5. They do: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCQ-5019 yep! that one caught my eye. as did "k.b. blues", and "two bones". the material on sonny clark's "blues in the night" been issued (on an sbm?) under the title "standards" in north america, right? that may be a nice upgrade. wonder which artwork they'll choose... That's a good question. I'd prefer the previous cd version cover be released (the one with Clark). You got it: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCQ-5011 and the cdjapan dedicated page for this new lot: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/products?term.list_id=20140417_bluenote_works3
  6. Cdjapan lists the new CD by Ron Carter apparently initially planned to be a duo recording with Jim Hall who in the meatime passed. 9. A marvelous box (the price tag kept on the box is 47.500,-- Greek Drachmas, quite a sum 15 years ago equal to 140 EUR now...)
  10. Jack DeJohnette — Joe Lovano — Esperanza Spalding — Leo Genovese: The Spring Quartet Tonight and tomorrow live in Athens, Greece! http://www.sgt.gr/en/programme/event/1258 Enjoy, Alex
  11. They're nice. I'm not always in the mood for this type of trio date, but when I am they'll be nice to spin. Also, O. Coleman's "Chappaqua Suite" is "2014 DSD", while Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite/Peer Gynt Suites/Thursday Suite is "1992 #$#!@"
  12. I got both Phil Wood releases which are "2006 &^%$$" ; however both Barney Willen CDs as well as the Satchmo Town Hall concert and Charlie Parker A Night at Birdlan are 2014 DSD remasters.
  13. Of course and welcome. Free shipping from Amazon.UK to Greece is cancelled since last year.
  14. I also have missed the Mulligan set from 1995 and tried to gather its contents later on starting with that 2-cd set from Cuscuna's fabulous Pacific Jazz series. I nearly would have got the Clifford Brown set but I remember that the case of the set in stock was damaged and changed my mind. I suppose it has both Blakey's Birdland discs, the Memorial record and this Pacific Jazz date with Zoot sims (all reissued later on in the RVG series). Does it include anything else? Thanks!
  15. http://www.musicradar.com/news/drums/billy-cobham-picks-10-essential-drum-recordings-569453 Enjoy and comment please! Alex.-
  16. It might be difficult to near impossible to reissue, but you would do very well with a reissue of "Hum Dono" by Amancio D'Silva. It has never been reissued on CD...vinyl goes upwards of $1000 consistently, and *many* people are after a copy. Musically it may not be as brilliant as "Dogon AD' by Hemphill for example..or even as good as D'Silva's own debut "Integration"(which did see a limited CD reissue), but it definitely has a big audience hungry for a quality CD reissue! Myself included. Seconded! 1550 GBP is indeed a lot of money: http://www.popsike.com/JOE-HARRIOTT-AMANCIO-DSILVA-Hum-Dono-Rare-UK-JAZZ-1969-NM-SUPERB/160783845256.html
  17. I just received the Carter/Bradford "Flight of Four" and it is already the 3rd successive time I am playing it. Wonderful. Same goes for Flute Fever. The remaing 3 titles from these series are on the way. Perhaps the most amazing reissues lately. Please bring us more!
  18. Indeed. I played Winners Circle last night (the previous mini lp series) - really a very nice record; as a consequence I preordered this 2cd Coltrane set to be released on the 12th of March '14 (of course I could have get just the Art Blakey Big Band released last year but it was not available from cdjapan, so... - I ll check the mastering differences of the Winners CD for the forum's benefit...) along with two more Bethlehem titles to be released that date (Stan Levey/Plays the compositions, and the Terry Pollard ones); a very productive ordering session last night thanks to this forum , with some tiltles from the Sony reissues (Garner Paris, Willen x 2 , Duke suites, Ornette, Woods x 2, Louis at Town Hall, Parker Birdland), Prestige 7000 (Sonny Criss Kaleidoscope, Teddy Charles collaboration West, James Moody x 3), Atlantic (Teddy Charles Bird). I just received the 2-cd japanese set of "John Coltrane - Turning Point - The Bethlehem Years" (CDSOL-6155, 12/03/2014). It includes 46 tracks and is an extended "Art Blakey Big Band" release: 3 x Midriff, 8 x Aint Life Grand, 2 x El Toro Valiente, 5 x The kiss of no return, 8 x The Outer World, 4 X Oasis, 7 x Tippin and 7 x Pristine. Actually all these tracks are from the "Art Blakey Big Band" Bethlehem LP, with "Late Date" missing from the 2-cd set. Do you happen to know the reason? Perhaps Coltrane does not play in this particular track? Also, none of the Winner's Circle LP tracks are included in the 2-Cd set.
  19. I received some of the cds from these "Jazz collection 1000" Sony/Japan series. Cdjapan has put in their packages same number of postcards with the logo of the series and photos of the albums reissued on the front side and on the rear side some empty boxes that need to be filled (with what?). I assume that these are the usual promos valid only in Japan but since they sent them to me in Europe, they may are also valid here. Do you have any idea what to do with them? Thanks. This is how the cards look: and from their site:
  20. I fully concur. Having a lot of Steig records, I can also say that this one is his best and by far. NB: the perect mini-lp sleeve is actually "made in Japan" per the sleeve notes.
  21. I agree. Nice remastering for these series.
  22. Does this box offers something more to somebody having the three recent Concord boxes (Fearless Leader, Interplay, Side)? Thanks! NB: go to jpc via the Demis Roussos shop and you get 5% discount to all purchases: http://www.demisroussos.info/shop/shop.htm
  23. I second this. Lush Life is an exceptional recording.
  24. A question regarding the new SHM-CD of Milt Jackson http://www.universal-music.co.jp/p/TYCJ-81022 against the RVG 2001 (Wizard of the Vibes): The SHM has 19 tracks: 1 LILLIE / Milt Jackson x 2 TAHITI / Milt Jackson x 3 WHAT'S NEW / Milt Jackson x 4 BAGS' GROOVE / Milt Jackson x 5 ON THE SCENE / Milt Jackson x 6 WILLOW WEEP FOR ME / Milt Jackson o 7 CRISS CROSS / Milt Jackson o 8 ERONEL / Milt Jackson o 9 MISTERIOSO / Milt Jackson x 10 EVIDENCE / Milt Jackson x 11 LILLIE / Milt Jackson x 12 FOUR IN ONE / Milt Jackson o 13 WHAT'S NEW / Milt Jackson x 14 DON'T GET AROUND MUCH ANYMORE / Milt Jackson x 15 DON'T GET AROUND MUCH ANYMORE / Milt Jackson x 16 CRISS CROSS / Milt Jackson o 17 ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE / Milt Jackson x 18 I SHOULD CARE / Milt Jackson x 19 I SHOULD CARE / Milt Jackson x While the RVG has 17 tracks: 1. Tahiti x 2. Lillie x 3. Bags'groove x 4. What's New x 5. Don't Get Around Much Anymore x 6. On the Scene x 7. Lillie (Alternate Take) x 8. What's New (Alternate Take) x 9. Don't Get Around Much Anymore (Alternate Take) x 10. Evidence x 11. Misterioso x 12. Epistrophy o 13. I Mean You o 14. Misterioso (Alternate Take) o 15. All the Things You Are x 16. I Should Care x 17. I Should Care (Alternate Take) x With (o) I noted the tracks that are unique to each of them. The RVG has the following sessions: 1. April 7,1952 session with John Lewis,Lou Donaldson,Percy Heath and Kenny Clarke 2. July 2,1948 : Milt Jackson,Thelonious Monk,John Simmons and Shadow Wilson. ... while the SHM-CD adds also 5 [out of the 9] tracks from the session from July 23, 1951 (which is included complete in the RVG Monk Genius Vol 2 CD), and omits 3 tracks from the July 2, 1948. I suppose the missing tracks from the RVG CD as well as the remaining from the July 23, 1951 session are included in the Monk Genius SHM-CDs. I guess the RVG CDs splitting was more logical since it included complete sessions. Or there is another base for SHM-CDs tracklisting? Or to make us re-buy all three of them? Alex
  25. Perhaps he lived long enough not to be a legend... I love his playing.
