  1. Meaning what, do you think? I wonder if in my own country we are about to create a class of citizens based on age and 'underlying conditions' (i.e. if you die, too bad, you were ill anyway). I worry that we will be marginalised at or excluded from work (for me its condition not age).
  2. Yes! I see that major US agencies did. UK nothing. Nigel Kennedy has lambasted the UK press for ignoring his passing. I saw him only once, in Shostakovich. ...and that, I now see, was in 2002, with the LSO under MTT. Doesn’t seem so long ago...
  3. Haven’t seen an obituary in the anglophone press yet, though Le Monde did one yesterday.
  4. I know why I love the songs and the solo vocal movements, but I don’t much reach for a CD of the symphonies and in recent years have infrequently attended a performance, though over time I’ve heard everything except the 8th, multiple times. I made my remark when I was starting to listen to a radio recording of the 3rd and realised I wasn’t up for it. So much emotionality? So much crashing and bashing? So long? Or just so familiar? Here’s the recording: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000hppq
  5. When it comes to day-dreaming and duffery we are world leaders!
  6. I thought you closed it because someone went off on an anti-capitalist rant.

Ah well - sadly it’s not music I’m lacking but time!

I’ve got the bandcamp app on my iPhone, and while you can stream an album you have purchased through the browser, you can’t buy an album and you can’t download.

I think that’s the difference then.

Hmm. Maybe these are problems specific to iPhone?

Bit OT but - what is the point of bandcamp? You can sample but not buy anything from the app. You can purchase but not listen from a browser. You can’t download to your phone. Life’s too short.
  12. That and the exchange rate. I can’t be doing with these fancy prices any more.
  13. ...except the songs (this thought may be incomplete)
  14. Following RT all the way today. My ancient David Atherton CD of Suite and Wind Quintet is on repeat play, with his Pierrot Lunaire and Serenade lined up for tomorrow.
  15. Off. When I take LPs for resale the merchants basically tell me they are tatty. Not in so many words of course. I explain they were tatty when I bought them, it’s the natural condition of LPs, they give me a pound a piece and we go our separate ways.
  16. Thanks Dan. This is similar ground to what was covered (in French) in the article from Le Monde that I linked to. Yikes.
  17. Le Monde today featured an account of the many effects of this virus. Behind a firewall unfortunately. https://www.lemonde.fr/sciences/article/2020/04/25/le-covid-19-maladie-virale-multicible_6037777_1650684.html
  18. And how about those $18 hotdogs outside the baseball?
  19. More here on the quest to disinfect and a self-styled ‘church’ that promotes it. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/24/revealed-leader-group-peddling-bleach-cure-lobbied-trump-coronavirus Something to consider before you spray the Lysol on your cornflakes.
  20. Best vocal on Blue Note? A reminder that, while Lion promoted a good few tootlers and tinklers, the beauties of the human voice seem to have eluded him.
  21. Not a true Blue Note of course, but...
  22. I’m guessing fatalities from drinking bleach are going to peak soon, with a new demographic.
  23. Got it. Thank you.
  24. Apart from anything else, it may be the case they are working from the album master tapes they were originally sent.
