  1. How many of you guys have tried streaming BBC Radio 6? Not jazz, but a real muso’s selection of new and not so new rock pop and other. Worth investigating for those of a muso mentality. Which is people like us.
  2. Just sampled the first (oh my...) and now airing the second. Of their time. Here they are on spotters: https://open.spotify.com/album/3uJP7nWIcPWLukgze1O8xM?si=aQqqF2EnQ-qlxqdbWOdvGQ https://open.spotify.com/album/63Oi2Q3wjNP7HphziH6tlp?si=WYQxi1xmTeK_-I7I5WdESQ "on the sea/of tranquility..." etc.
  3. Chinese for ‘hat’...
  4. And I don’t need to add that selling it would be a massive labour in itself. Oh well. I’ve said all of this before.
  5. As someone said, the storage and cataloguing costs for any collection are huge. I doubt the collection will ever get catalogued. Unlike an archive of papers, say, which is one of a kind, nothing in a record collection is unique. Thousands of these records will be commonplace. Who will travel to SDSU to hear KoB? Pullen and Graves at Yale - such a singular rarity - it’s on YouTube, I’m listening to it now. How much use does anyone here make of a comparable archive? It would make more sense to sell the collection and sponsor a scholarship for a few years.
  6. Mike I can’t friend you only follow you! A lot of folks here don’t use their own names and will be very difficult to find on Facebook, hence a group could be useful at least from my point of view. I do hear what others are saying.
  7. Title altered as requested. One reason I’d like a group is to get to know more about people here. I’ve learned a lot I never knew from people’s COVID posts. Seems that despite your obsessions with hunting down every last alternate of every long-forgotten tootler you are capable and interesting human beings!
  8. Answer oh destiny PS multiple choice so click away
  9. Yes I dabble in Bandcamp now for that range of options. CD purchases for me are usually in store or at gigs. By the way, today is Bandcamp waiver day so whatever we buy they don’t charge the artists.
  10. Between Spotify and YouTube I’m covered. I take the view that if anybody really wants me to be able to hear something they will put it on the streaming services. And that means I don’t have to wait at all.
  11. Re. transatlantic shipping that became a dead loss a long time ago for reasons of cost, let alone customs delays. I just priced up a couple of CD sets on Bandcamp. $75 for 7 CDs would be a great price. But add $25+ shipping, and tax, duty and processing charges on top of that, and you are a bit over double that. Add the month or more wait and...and nothing. In what world.
  12. A recent bad experience in another retail area has put me off mail order of any sort. Remember when CD mail order was viewed as the enemy of the physical store? Mail order is still the enemy.
  13. Re. drummers: for me it’s a matter of having them in the room. Recording can give you a good fix for sure, but presence and impact is such a big part of it.
  14. The mighty Sarah Gail Brand has just posted a new release on bandcamp with her Deep Trouble trio - Paul Rogers and Mark Sanders https://sarahgailbrand.bandcamp.com/album/deep-trouble I’ll also mention that the final concert from her research project is posted at the bottom of this page. With Beresford, Edwards and Sanders. http://www.sarahgailbrand.net/academic A fine concert even if the recorded sound falls short. You can also read her PhD if you like! Linked from the same page.
  15. Not hearing it. Are you sure it's not vinyl show-through?
  16. And, wasn’t Clementine DEEP?
  17. I thought TTK was Moms. Shows what I know.
  18. Sad to see that this classic account has now been taken down.
  19. Oh I certainly know what lynching is! I can’t believe that he wrote that.
  20. Somebody please pm me to tell me what the omitted words are. I can’t work it out and it’s like the last answer in the crossword.
  21. Well Simon is also on Facebook and I friended him, so thanks for the mistake!
  22. Super. I’ll try to friend him too. That’ll teach him.
